I have been working at Eastman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Incredibly transparent, honest, and open culture. Surrounded by sharp, capable professionals. It's very hard to find a large employer in an incredible recreational area. The work is great, and the area provides a tremendous balance. I made a request for training and it was approved my second week here. That has never happened!

    Cons

Difficult to recruit lateral talent because many professionals at other chemical companies don't see the value proposition of East TN. Once they do join, they stay, but sometimes they just can't see how great it is to live and work here. There is tremendous value in not living in a crowded, large city.

    Advice to Management

Company is going through major, positive transformation. Tons of energy around the changes so let's keep it up.

    Benefits are better than most.

    Cons

I have been working at Eastman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a great environment to work in. Everyone is friendly and helpful as well as very professional. As an intern Eastman has helped me get to know the company.

    Cons

Eastman is very large. I would say its possible to feel lost in the sea of employees. This can be avoided if you take the connection opportunities given to you.

    Advice to Management

So far my internship is proving to be a very valuable experience. I would suggest for future interns to make sure they know about all of the networking opportunities available.

I have been working at Eastman as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with, the entire company's focus is safety all the time, identify and reward hard work, the site I worked at is small plant so it is easy to meet/make personal connections with everyone, and everyone is always eager to help or teach you something if you are interested.

    Cons

The site I worked at was a small plant meaning that there are few job openings. Eastman has bigger sites with more job openings, but I feel like FL is an ideal job location

I have been working at Eastman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very good company culture and work-life balance. Give excellent assignments to interns and co-ops, not just busy work. Everyone is collaborative and wants to help you succeed.

    Cons

Not many big cons. I've had great experience

I have been working at Eastman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, great compensation, flexible schedules. Of course, most of this depends on the area you go into and your manager. If you find yourself in a job that does not reflect "great" then certainly look into transferring into another job within the company.

    Cons

No job is perfect, but the only cons I can think of are that we have a LOT of management--layers upon layers of management. This makes it difficult for decision-making and communication. You don't know who is responsible for a decision or who needs to be involved, which ultimately leads to time wasted and people upset over not being "in the loop".

Also, our bonus system is nice, but causes drama. For instance, when individuals are rated well and receive a nice bonus, it's hard to enjoy because you hear others very upset about their ranking and we are told that people ranked well get their bonus from the people that are not ranked well (take from the "low" performers and give to the "high" performers). This makes good performers feel a bit guilty, despite how well-deserved the "high" ranking is.

No Paternity leave, which is critical to the health of our families. I struggled with adjusting to life with a newborn and my husband had no paternity leave (he works for the same company) which made my situation much more stressful being home alone with a newborn and no support.

    Advice to Management

Maybe the bonus system has been misrepresented, but we are told that management must rank us 1-10 (or however many are in a group) and regardless of how well the individuals have done, the bottom rankings have their bonuses reduced. If this is a communication issue the I would recommend communicating directly with employees about how it works instead of allowing word-of-mouth to be the only explanation.

Research the benefits of paternity leave and consider adding it.

I have been working at Eastman full-time

    Pros

Salary was pretty decent, especially considering cost of living in area.

    Cons

Despite good cost of living, location leaves much to be desired.
