I worked at Eastman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay. Good hours. Okay management. Average health care benefits.

    Cons

Retirement benefits have dwindled down to nothing for new hires. I was fortunate to be one of the few left who received lump sum payments and plus had my 401K. Now they have nothing but what they save and no medical benefits.

    Advice to Management

Quit hogging the profits and start taking care of your employees the way George Eastman intended.

I have been working at Eastman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

No pros about working in Logistics.

    Cons

Working in Logistics at Eastman is very demeaning and degrading. It is not a trusting, healthy work environment. There are lots of mixed messages coming from Logistics Management and it is a very stressful environment. Employees are micromanaged, told what to say, how to say it and what to think.

Logistics Management is a good ole boys club and the people at the top have very long memories. They continue to put people in authority positions that will agree and are yes-men. If you ever make a mistake, they are unforgiving and will bring up things that happened years ago. Management does not like it when you have a different opinion and do not agree with their approach.

    Advice to Management

Don't talk about employees behind their back. Treat others fairly and with respect. Tell the truth. Allow people to make a mistake, learn from it and move on without holding a grudge for years.

I have been working at Eastman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has changed quite a bit from the Kodak days, and mostly for the good. Co-workers and managers are generally helpful and want you to succeed. In spite of some recent blunders I believe the CEO is intelligent and does want Eastman to prosper. Diversity of workforce is mostly a plus; lots of expats have successful careers here. Primary caregivers, however, are more challenged (see Cons). Eastman has historically had many very technically competent employees, but this is changing quickly (more about that in the Cons).

    Cons

The 2016 downsizing and push for productivity has resulted in exceptionally overworked employees. Forget about taking all your vacation ( and you can't carry it over or get it paid out). Most of the comments in the reviews about the performance management system are true; it is only used against you to prevent a promotion or so your boss can give part of your bonus to one of his pets. The plus side is if you are one of your boss's pets then you don't need to worry about your rating. Experience and technical knowledge are not valued very much; long-time employees are treated like diseases when layoff time comes around. A staggering amount of experience walked (or was shown) out the door in 2016 simply because a young new hire looks cheaper on paper than an old timer. Women (and some men) with children won't fare as well in their careers due to a lack of work/life balance. Another Con is that managers change position every couple of years; I think this is a Con because your direct supervisor may never understand or appreciate what you do or your value. On the other hand this could be a Pro if you're incompetent or want to hide out till retirement.

    Advice to Management

Stop kowtowing to investors and Wall Street; grow some ovaries and say to them "This is our strategy" and just do it. Investors will throw money at us if our strategy is sound. Appreciate the experience that has been developed right here in the company and remember that you get what you pay for. It takes experience to operate an aging chemical plant.

I worked at Eastman (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent, hard working employees that for the most part are fully committed to the company. Unfortunately management will not reciprocate, either in terms of raises orpromotions.

    Cons

*Grossly mismanaged from the top down.
*Not giving freedom to new recruits to develop their talents.
*Management is enamored with processes over results.
*Employees are expendable when the first economic downturn hits.
*Old fashioned mentality in doing business, and squeezing employees, suppliers and customers, until they have nothing else to give.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging and trust your employees.
Support your human resources, as they are the heart and soul of the company, but are treated like trash.
