    Pros

This is a great opportunity to really make a difference. I feel empowered and supported by management to make positive changes. The company takes its culture and values seriously. We do business right!

    Cons

By cutting back during the recession the salaried workforce became pretty thin so we work very hard. But we are hiring so things are looking good.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and always make sure to listen and empower your employees

    Pros

Clean work place, excellent pay and benefits. Wonderful place to expand knowledge, free classes offered to do a better job. Company support with personal problems.

    Cons

Almost non-existing communication between shifts, supervisors seem to have their "cliques". A lot of favoritism seen at the company. E-Star system almost non-existent anymore, used to be a wonderful incentive to workers to go above and beyond their regular duties. Now these incentives are mostly given to events like walking etc, which takes away from the duties to make quality products for customers.

    Advice to Management

Reinstate the old E-Star system, ask the workers beforehand on how changes will affect them on the floor. Changes made by engineers look good on paper, however the workers are the ones who have to deal with them while keeping up production and keeping overtime down. Ask the "old timers" for advice about changes. They have done the jobs for a long time and know the problems, probably will have some great solutions. Follow through with it, not just promise that it "will be looked at", then never to be heard about again. Most ideas come from the workers on the floor, however the supervisors and managers seem to take credit for most of them.

I have been working at Eaton full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Get to work with products used in a variety of commercial and military applications
Exposure to information systems and manufacturing business systems
    Teamwork skills can be built
Lots to learn about manufacturing. If interested in becoming an engineer; you can see them in action every day.
Benefits; particularly for college students including: Medical, Dental, 401K, Tuition Reimbursement
    Overtime Available
Proactive in avoiding accidents and protecting employees against harmful chemicals

    Cons

Workers sometimes get ostracized for declining to work overtime
Two 10 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch make for a waste of 50 minutes of your day
Those producing heavy volumes tend to get more pressure to work overtime
Goals are ambiguous for those low on the totem pole; definitely somewhat of a con for goal oriented folks.

    Advice to Management

Exercise ideas given to you from the guys and gals on the floor. Get involved with production. When there are hangups on the assembly line it can get frustrating for us little people. If there are eyes and ears nearby, issues can get fixed faster, people will stay happier, and some of the overtime that chews into the weekend can be avoided.

I have been working at Eaton full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A caring company that believes the wellfare of their employees affects the bottom line in a positive way.

    Very good work life balance.

    Good benefits.

The people are relaxed, not formal. Good for me, but not for everyone.

    Cons

Work experience and satisfaction may vary upon location and business unit, true with any global company.

Holiday time off is very back end loaded. You get the time off, but most of it is at the end of the year, from Thanksgiving to the new year. After that it is a long drought. You can use your vacation time to break it up if you want.

The interview process is painfully long. While it seems to successful in getting the right person for the jom, most of the time, the length of time that it takes may turn off some people.

    Advice to Management

When contemplating the hiring of a contract who has been working for you for close to a year you should already know if you want to hire them full time or not. The interview process is a waste of time for both them and any other individuals that you interview for the position. You have had a year to interview them, they are a known quantity, either you want them or you don't.
