I worked at Eaton full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great Fortune 500 company
Promising future in Electrical and aerospace
    Mature Business Systems

    Cons

    Managers lack key qualifications
    Metric driven organization
    Only priority is production

    Advice to Management

Replace managers from the Perkins Elmer acquisition who have not embraced One Eaton concept after all this time. The corporation also needs to consolidate operations and product lines. The organization does not provide sufficient resources for important aspects like protecting the environment and the safety of employees. This may be different at some sites, but it is an ugly pictures at some of the operations I visited.

I worked at Eaton full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This place is probably a good learning experience for a new person in the first 3-5 years of a career maximum.

The leadership of Aerospace is clearly clueless, the current VP of the bsuness is a micromanager with an overinflated ego, no concern for anyone but himself and perhaps one of teh most phony people I have ever seen.

    Cons

    Lack of leadership
    Lack of empowerment
    Lack of a strategy
    Poor Managerment behaviors
    Mistake yelling for accountabiltiy
waste of good systems and tools

    Advice to Management

I would find something else to do that is more suited to your ability, becasue running an aerospace comapny is not for you. You don't have the ability to think long term, are completely risk averse and lack teh vision to operate in an industry with the long cycles and possible risks

You have to be able to innovate and take risks in this industry - and you simply lack that capability

I worked at Eaton full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an engineer, the pay was too low since I was making higher pay at Pratt & Whitney 7 years earlier. Dedicated engineers who work tirelessly and don't get any thanks or credit from management for their effort. My boss worked day and night (literally) on a major project that was late due to management incompetence while trying raise his kids and do all the other stuff life throws at us. I wonder if management ever thought to say thank you R.

    Cons

Poorly managed company overall. Total chaos in Jackson, MS. Worse than any other company I have ever seen (i'm not exaggerating) Some of the managers (VP level) are so deceitful that I can comfortably say they are evil or border on being antisocial/sociopaths. I was having a conversation with a VP at a meeting in Houston about an idea that I had to solve a problem. He rudely said that's not what I do and then quickly walked away and made a call. When we returned to the meeting (3-4 minutes later) he made an announcement that he had made progress on the problem but using my idea and proposing it as his own. That VP really got to me that day. It disturbed me for some time that he did something so childish. The idea was so simple. It wasn't rocket science. No need to do that. I quit two months later. Whereupon they tried to accuse me of some sort of corporate spying (not sure of the exact details). Unbelievable place. My heart goes out to those employees in Jackson.

    Advice to Management

Treat engineers and other techies like people instead of objects or slaves.

I have been working at Eaton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    401K with match, tuition reimbursement

    Cons

Brain Washed, Unionized thinking, inefficiently run, culture encourages employee sense of entitlement and lack of maturity, Very low employee appreciation, absolutely no appreciation/opportunities for new hires.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the union, Challenge employees to prove/improve themselves, improve employee satisfaction, utilize talent within the plant before looking outward, operate based on competence not seniority, increase vertical and horizontal communication, implement shadow/apprentice program before people retire and take their knowledge with them, cross-train to prevent that problem.

    Pros

Can't think of anything real positive about the organization-my experience had been negative from first initial contact - from senior management on down. Shortsighted short term goals-as long as the month end numbers come in as projected; everything's fine-not too much retribution.

    Cons

Leadership lacking (mngrs. do not understand their markets). Profit motivated at all costs-regardless of repercussions. Terrible customer service and relationships

    Advice to Management

readdress priorities-desperately needs long term thinking (more than a month).

    Pros

    Decent pay, and okay benefits.

    Cons

    1. Favoritism by managers
    2. Discrimination based on race at Jackson, Michigan facility especially
    3. Management and HR would cook up untrue allegations just to get you fired because of budget reasons

    Advice to Management

Don't believe that employees are disgruntled when they complain about their direct managers, the people you put in charge are doing unethical things and messing up people's lives without remorse.
