I have been working at EchoStar full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It's very hard to get fired.

    Cons

Poor benefits, low pay, prehistoric management, no option to work from home, very old technology, broken furniture, lack of executive foresight leading to near constant "fire drills", meaningless work. To soften the blow of low raises, they gave employees candy - not a joke!

    Advice to Management

Consider changing your culture, benefits, and compensation to at least industry standard before all your high-tech workers leave for greener pastures in the highly-competitive hiring market of Denver.

I have been working at EchoStar full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fairly stable and secure job, you would really have to try hard to be fired

    Coworkers are nice and knowledgeable

Mid-management is usually helpful, understanding, and knows what needs to get done (and tries)

    Cons

    Below average pay

    Bad benefits

    Bad upper management

    Blame game centric culture

    Advice to Management

You state your engineers are top of their class, then pay them like it (or at least pay the average, without that your statement is vacuous)

Take responsibility for products and projects. That is your job and why you get paid more than everyone else, to shoulder responsibility of a projects failure or success

    Pros

Popcorn machine in the basement is always hot and fresh

    Cons

Leadership does not have a clear vision and mission, therefore expectations are not consistent. No true people management skills, or development opportunities for growth. Collaboration and information sharing is not supported- Information is a power tool

    I worked at EchoStar full-time

    Pros

Great commute. If your boss lets you, remote work may be possible.

    Cons

Benefits are very weak and eroding yearly, as compared to other employers. The 401K is more expensive than most and it takes 5 years to vest. Two weeks of vacation is maximum unless you negotiate something under the table. Bullying took place in several forms, and HR was ineffective in correcting it.

    Advice to Management

Retire and let fresh blood come in.
