I have been working at EchoStar full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They are a decent company to work for

    Cons

They don't seem to care that Utah has lots of places that are willing to pay more money than them.

    Advice to Management

Consider putting more money into your Utah employees. It is a competitive market right now, you have lost people because your pay and benefits are less competitive.

I worked at EchoStar full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, people, decent pay.

    Cons

Organizational. Some people had a lot to do, some none. And managers always seemed pretty oblivious to that. A lot of no integrity employees were able do do very little real work.

    Advice to Management

    Organize.

I have been working at EchoStar full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good salary, work life balance, nice people, fun product to work on, managers were all very approachable and supportive.

    Cons

Facilities are not the best, very few job "perks", many onsite contractors can create a frustrating work experience due to turn over, management not always organized.

    Advice to Management

Put more of an emphasis on creating a fun, creative environment. The office space where I worked was a bit gloomy. Improving company culture could go a long ways.

I have been working at EchoStar full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very accommodating management, looking for new ideas and new ways to do things.
Rumors of rigid workplace is not true but still depends on your manager.

    Cons

Politics between the acquired company Hughes and EchoStar, still signs of turf battle.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate more modern work styles as per industry and be more agile.

I have been working at EchoStar full-time

    Pros

    Outstanding work experience opportunities
Understanding Management (for my department anyway)
Lots of departments make good for interim transfers in a broad range of IT related fields
    Full benefits while full time
Lots of discounts through the company from electronics to vehicles

    Cons

Pay not very competitive for Cheyenne location
There will be some drama just like every where else in the world
Lots of confusion during the hiring process with job titles

    Advice to Management

Be more competitive with salaries, this will make more individuals stay for the duration of their career.
Get the hiring process down. My job title is different than what I applied for but I needed the job so I could not afford to fight it and risk losing the opportunity.

I worked at EchoStar full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Great people in my office
    - Loved the vice president and my direct supervisor that I reported to
    - Tuition reimbursement, profit sharing, and decent benefits
    - Pay was ok

    Cons

    - When I was leaving the company and was told I could not bring my position with me when I moved because they were changing the position, the manager used my resume word for word on the job description in a job board so that had me confused and a bit angry since the position wasn't going to be what I used to do (I am not even sure where they got my new resume since I had worked there 14 years and was looking in another city and did not give them a copy that I remember)

    Advice to Management

    - Check into your department management to make sure they aren't being lazy about finding a new employee or just be honest if the position cannot be taken elsewhere even though the Echostar manager from the city I was moving to offered office space to me so I could keep my job; after all of those years with the company it changed my view a bit to see that my position did not change. If that would not have happened I would have given all high ratings for the company.
    - And make sure the department manager keeps everyone in the loop as to what is going on - the newest manager we had told us nothing half of the time and we were left to find work and figure out what to do next on our own - my direct supervisor was fantastic but the department manager could use some training to be a manager and really involve everyone

I worked at EchoStar (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very clear career pathing and training. Internal mobility was promoted at all levels. Many programs for engagement.

    Cons

The call center environment was not for me. I knew the job involved being on the phones all day, but working in technical support it became too much to be the punching bag for service interruptions and customer dissatisfaction.
