I have been working at Ecolab full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay, solid and growing company. A lot of room for advancement. Several divisions and opportunities in US.

    Cons

Never ending pursuit of budget, while not a bad thing, expectations vary greatly by managers.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee retention and listen to their concerns more. Employees have a hard time balancing work and personal lives and become frustrated and show it in their efforts over time.

I have been working at Ecolab full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, 401k match, pension, company car for personal use. Recession proof sales career with plenty of room for growth. Went from 45k/year to over 100k in 3 years.

    Cons

Territory managers wear a lot of different hats, job can be very stressful at times if you don't manage your time wisely.

    Advice to Management

No leased machines for territory managers, hire service managers to take care of repairs to let us focus on making sales and developing new business.

Large company where Senior management can sometimes seem a bit out of touch with the field and too much micro-managing.

I worked at Ecolab as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Ecolab is a very large, global and stable company which leads in its industry segments. Work-Life balance for IT is almost too good to be true. Congenial atmosphere. Promotions from within historically have happened, even to high levels, though I am unsure how much this still applies after acquisitions of Nalco and Champion. Probably the least stressful IT job that I have ever had. I have a very high opinion overall of the company and the colleagues and departments with which I interacted.

    Cons

Unfortunately not the most sophisticated technical organization. Siloed to the point that it interferes with career opportunities, not to mention daily operations. I have noticed a certain culture which is averse to change. Need more standardization of processes and taming rogue players (which I think is understood). That said, it is still among the best places to work which I have heard of or experienced.

    Advice to Management

Embrace nimbleness and empower your managers to hire and replace people with less hoops to jump through. You need to be able to compete for top talent against more streamlined organizations. You have done many right things over the years; never stop analyzing the playing field and where you stand on it.

    Pros

highly professional and lean organization - great training - well respected - global leader in many industries - you certainly are learning from the best

    Cons

very demanding - better bring your A Game 110% of the time - poor work life balance - selling your soul - they want people to be robots and management doesn't like free thinkers

    Advice to Management

    stop working people to death
