I worked at Ecology and Environment full-time

    Pros

Great people, doing great work for their clients. Some of the smartest, nicest people to work with. Office environment was good ( I was not at HQ, which I would avoid), work was interesting and great learning.

    Cons

Leadership changes are needed at the senior level. Many have been around for too long, too much infighting and politics. Fresh ideas without politics are needed. Hard to move up, hard to get a raise, hard to get senior staff to listen to new ideas. Regional offices should be tapped for new ideas and markets, but power is centralized at HQ, which is hidden away in Lancaster NY.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your regional offices. Get out of HQ and see what is happening..... Hire new blood and retire out the staff who have been around since the Nixon era.

I have been working at Ecology and Environment full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, opportunity to work on a variety of projects. Not quick to lay off or fire without cause. Reasonably enjoyable work environment.

    Cons

So-so pay. No bonuses unless you are mid to upper level. Mediocre pay. Mediocre health insurance. Some staff have trouble staying chargeable, however this is not unique to E&E.

    Advice to Management

Bonuses company-wide would help morale. Better raises would help too. Christmas party can go. Put the money into bonuses.

I worked at Ecology and Environment (More than a year)

    Pros

I liked the Salt Lake office. Once some changes were made, the atmosphere was better. The new office manager as of May/June 2014 is MUCH better. I did learn a good amount while at E&E but unfortunately didn't see myself advancing anywhere fast.

    Cons

Took some time to make some necessary changes. Very old school and good ole boy type feel with upper management. Some updates could definitely be made to bring E&E into the 21st century. Very hard to get integrated at times. Seemed folks had their preferred people for work and, as a new employee, was hard to get work and stay billable. Didn't see much room for advancement. Pay was pretty low and had heard there were no raises in the last few years.

    Advice to Management

Come into the 21st century. More effort to integrate new employees. Make some much needed decisions faster.

    Pros

I have been given opportunities to advance my career here. The company has been loyal to me.

    Cons

Work life balance is out of whack. Many cut backs trying to turn the company around. Raises have been very poor over the last 3 years. Hopefully with the new President things will get back on track.

    Advice to Management

Communicate and treat employees like humans. They have a choice in working there and without them, you don't have a company. Give them raises.

I worked at Ecology and Environment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ample opportunity to work on various projects in far flung locations. Some people are particularly talented.

    Cons

Office politics are tough. The offices fight each other. Junior employees given little instruction or support.

    Advice to Management

Merit-based promotions will go far. Support young talent, reward initiative, and improve the compensation and benefits program by limiting/reducing overhead.

    Pros

Interesting projects, good quality of work

    Cons

Top management uses intimidation to rule. This creates fear and lots of sucking up for the middle managers.

    Advice to Management

The top management should retire, because they are unable to change and grow.
