    Pros

Get to work with the best thought-leaders in the industry, big clients, international opportunities; Great leadership team

    Cons

The NYC office is mired in politics, moving past the AS/AM level is not merit-based anymore but it's favoritism/cronyism. Hence, one can more often than not find themselves with a line manager that is not interested in great work or let alone helping you grow, but that is purely in it for themselves. One mistake and you get thrown under the bus. Eat or be eaten mentality.

    Advice to Management

P&L structure is a hindrance and cause for most of the politics that is poisening the workplace culture; The leadership/executive team has all the best intentions at heart, and the values they hold dear are certainly great, but they need to open their eyes to the fact that follow-through down to the AAE level is NOT happening.

    I worked at Edelman full-time

    Pros

    - Standard benefits
    - Great location
    - Great volunteer opportunities

    Cons

    - The leadership can use leadership training, or Edelman can just stick to hiring proven leaders.
    - If you don't have agency experience, don't bother applying. They won't even look at your resume.
    - Absolutely no multicultural work. Employees often make crude racist jokes and HR just looks the other way.
    - VP's are too afraid and haven't been trained on how to encourage a client to change strategy.
    - Digital team often encounters road blocks. They're far behind on their digital capabilities.
    - Mean Girls attitude
    - No diversity
    - For being professional communicators, VPs do a terrible job of communicating with team members.

    Advice to Management

You have to work on your leaders. If you don't want to invest the time, then hire proven leaders.

    I worked at Edelman full-time

    Pros

independent/family ownership, smart people, thought leadership in comms space, solid training/continuing education, top talent & clients in Global Client Relationship Management program

    Cons

workplace politics (which exist everywhere), big/over investment in creative which has put more pressure on core PR folks and in some cases devalued them, while you will find marquis client connections in work in offices outside Chicago and NY, in US, for going after global opportunities and big clients, those would be offices to target in US

I have been working at Edelman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of great perks from happy hours, to transportation reimbursement, gym membership reimbursement, great benefits 401k, health, vision, dental. Great family oriented culture to work for. Flexible with job relocation.

    Cons

Really cannot think of anything. I was going to say pay, however I must be honest that you get paid what you earn. If you want to get paid more you really have to have a great attitude, show up on time, turn out great work consistently. I really wouldn't expect anything other than this in order to be compensated satisfactorily anywhere else, so why not here?

    Advice to Management

Reward you infrastructure departments, they are the life line of the entire company worldwide. AR, AP, Billing, Contracts, Legal, etc.

I worked at Edelman full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very solid digital practice. Good training ground for junior staff.

    Cons

Offices operate as silos due to an antiquated geographic P&L structure. Client work is often mis-staffed so that offices may hoard revenue as opposed to best serve their clients. Fiefdoms and poor behavior by their ring leaders are tolerated, including by the highest levels of leadership. Internal politics negatively affect the work environment on a daily basis. Few women exist in senior leadership positions; it's a boy's club, plain and simple.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at the results of your annual employee engagement surveys and do something about it.
