I have been working at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

EDMC's focus is to provide education to those who other Universities reject. The company focuses on working with students so they succeed and exceed what they thought possible. The work, especially as an Admissions Rep, is hard and repetitive; however the impact you make to the lives of your students is immeasurable. EDMC, although under misguided scrutiny like other education systems, has worked in conjunction with the DOE to show how education is done right. There is great pride in the work they have done. Benefits are good and affordable, includes 401k, medical and dental, paid short term leave, and education benefits to further your own education.

    Cons

It is a highly scrutinized industry and highly regulated. Patience and persistence is a must, especially in Admissions. Career paths are fair, but it can top out at a certain level

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good fight, but look to the hourly folks for input on how to keep the passion going.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Edmc was great for promoting within its company with new positions.

    Cons

Because of the overall online education market and the lack of understanding of how to better run the company the company was constantly downsizing and closing departments it made everyone feel like the job was not reliable

    Advice to Management

Make a business plan and stick with it

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time

    Pros

EDMC has established practices, metrics and rules to step into. This helps with onboarding. Plenty of great people work at the 4 college chains within the parent company.

    Cons

Based on the recent climate for for-profit schools, the already conservative senior leadership has become more conservative. Meaning, there has been more of a focus on holding on to what was than innovating for the future and creating new and meaningful value propositions for prospective, current and former students. This lack of vision and experimentation does not bode well for the long term prospects of the organization. Employees need room to innovate and ideas need to be heard.

    Advice to Management

Budget $$s and greenlight new initiatives to breath new life into the organization. Stem the eroding margins and student population through quality, retention and outcomes. Consider the use of new technologies as well.
