I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked at EDMC for 2 years and had a positive work experience there. This my first job in the field of higher education but felt supported by my coworkers and manager.

    Cons

In the short time I was employed with EDMC I saw a lot of changes, restructuring and layoffs.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the best years of my career were spent with EDMC. Unfortunately that was a long time ago. There were great coworkers, good pay, good benefits and satisfaction in bringing a quality education to students who hadn't or wouldn't fared well in traditional settings. A great many went on to highly successful careers. The faculty were and still are very good. Committed to student success.

    Cons

Unfortunately the company was sold by the owner to an investment company who tried to use typical business practices on a company engaged in educating atypical students. The result was disaster, both educational and financial.

    Advice to Management

What is needed is an understanding that there is good money to be made in commercial arts education but management needs to think outside normal business practices.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

the salary was very good at the time of my hire, but i understand its been lowered since i left.

    Cons

HIGH HIGH HIGH turn over. Out of the 11 people i was hired on with, only 1 is currently still there. the hours stink, 9-6 gives you no life. they expect you to arrive around 830 and leave around 615. you can log off at 6, but people give you looks. Management is very weak. I was meeting with my manager on a biweekly basis, going over plans to become a manager, and out of nowhere i was fired. They dont care about employees or students, they only care about $$. Its my biggest career decision regret, joining this company. I worked for Argosy. I hope they read this and make changes, but from everything ive read and heard, they never do.

    Advice to Management

Stop pressuring students into schools they cant afford or dont need. Actually care about your employees, dont just fake it.

I have been working at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Two Louie's is across the street and there is a good coffee place nearby.

    Cons

Absolutely everything about this place makes me cringe. Being micro managed doesn't even describe how management is here. Managers force us to scam students and threaten that we will lose our jobs if we don't force or trick students into starting school. Management here is a complete joke. This job is all about numbers and money and nothing else. The company does not value its employees whatsoever. We are treated like dirt and are scolded, degraded, and threatened almost every day. There is no room for growth here and the business model is a complete failure. I wish this company would've gotten shut down after they were sued and went bankrupt. This place makes me depressed and the only thing keeping me here is the paycheck...but it is not even worth it anymore.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was a lot of room for adding your own spin on things in class, industry experience so to speak. The company had great benefits in the beginning but as they started to lay people off and close college the benefits got worse and worst too. However, still the best job I ever had in terms of the people I worked with. They were simply the best!

    Cons

School closed, the management at the corporate level didn't seem to give a darn.

    Advice to Management

Let you people in on the financial goings on so they can prepare themselves for when there is a lay off of school closure. You're messing with peoples lives here.
