I have been working at Education Management Corporation (More than a year)

    Pros

My co-workers are all fabulous. The PTO is much better than most places with 16 days a year plus 12 holidays. I can WFH 4-8 days a month which is nice. They also have flexible shifts so I can arrange doctors appointments and other things without having to take time off. The atmosphere in the office is relaxed. I can wear jeans to work and listen to music all day. The health care is fantastic.

    Cons

The starting pay was decent, but there are no raises. There is little room for growth in the company. If you want to make more money after a couple years prepare to move to a different company. There is high turnover is some key departments which makes work more difficult as I essentially have to tell new people things over and over. They've recently been bought by another company so the future is uncertain. They've start measuring our work using metrics, which is not only useless but incredibly stressful. They've also cut back on some of the small employee appreciation things they used to do so the mood around the office is just down. Management almost never has your back with other departments or students.

    Advice to Management

Stop pitting us against each other with meaningless metrics. Be a little more upfront about what's going on.

I worked at Education Management Corporation (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work environment was good, as was the schedule.

    Cons

Management is usually promoted by their abilities to "sell" or meet goals, but not on their ability to train and develop others. It is also a high turnover company, so if you don't cut it you won't last long.

    Advice to Management

Give your mid-level managers more training on how to develop their employees.
