I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time

    Pros

The salary was above average and more than industry competition. I strongly do not recommend regardless of salary. Stay away if you can.

    Cons

Bad management. It is a very scripted environment. The degrees are not regionally accredited but nationally accredited, which does not hold the same level of value compared to their competition. It's a tough sell and you don't feel good about asking students to sign up for their $90k bachelor programs. Very stressful.

    Advice to Management

    Micro management and unethical standards

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you enjoy making a difference in people's lives, you get the opportunity like no other. Pretty good source of autonomy.

    Cons

Company is not doing to good. A lot of layoffs, don't know if company will survive. A lot of government regulations.

    Advice to Management

There's a huge disconnect between corporate and management. Right hand doesn't know what left hand is doing. They don't have a very good leadership development program. Management seems to be left to themselves and figure things out, which in turn trickles down to employees. Can be very frustrating.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Had decent benefits until they stopped 401k match and hiked cost of health insurance. Fine for an entry level person just looking for experience.

    Cons

Horrible inexperienced management, EXTREMELY inefficient business processes, outdated corporate mindset that left management unwilling to learn from the past or take suggestions. There was an attitude that it's not employees place to think or make things better, just shut up and do the job.

    Advice to Management

Shake it up. Try something new. Don't be jerks, there's nothing special about you just because you're in charge. Leadership is about people not perks.
