I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time

    Pros

Decent Pay, made several friends among my co-workers

    Cons

Terrible management, upper management isn't concerned about education ad has no experience running a school, middle management is ignorant and incompetent. Its a totally disappointing situation for a company that could be so much better than it is. Just look at all the lawsuits alleging fraud. With that much smoke, there has to be some fire, right?

    Advice to Management

Be truthful and honest rather than lying and hiding the truth, things will go much better for the company.

    Pros

Exposure to different functional areas of IT

    Cons

Low pay, expectations from management are unreasonable, no resources available, working for criminals, no 401k, the imminent sucking sound as your soul is ripped out,

    Advice to Management

Please sell these sites to people who care about educating. You do not.

I worked at Education Management Corporation (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only reason to work for this company would.be a desire to do what you can to help position students to never have to work for such a company. As an Instructor at on of the Art Institute campuses, I learned the least desirable methods of running an educational organization because they we all a part of the management style of this company.

    Cons

Almost too many to mention, but to summarize: Terrible management at both campus and corporate levels, lack of true concern for students, greed, dictatorial and inept managers with no clue as to how to lead in a professional capacity or organization. No concern for employees.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue. Perhaps consult your employees as to how to do so. There are/were years of education and experience at your disposal that could assist with how to properly run a company, yet you choose to hire outside consultants or to not even inquire about and/address your failings at all. Also, STOP being so greedy as to pay your workers, with the exception of admissions, below market while continually padding the pockets of upper management.

If by chance you are able to remain in operation, turn your focus more toward actually EDUCATING and preparing students rather than merely ENROLLING them. Dedicate more attention to educators than to admissions, from office space allocated to salaries paid.

    Pros

Relaxed office setting. Most days completely casual.

    Cons

Unwilling to adapt to new technologies hardware, software, or libraries. Poor project management.

    Advice to Management

Allow for inner team growth and adapt to changing trends.

    Pros

The people I worked with were amazing. Great sense of team work from my group.

    Cons

Management is all about profit over education. Watched them convince people who had no computer and no transportation that could get them to a reliable computer that the only way to a better life was through on-line school and hey, let me help you fill out your student loan application. It was really nauseating.

    Advice to Management

if you are really about the education of the masses, change your tactics.

    Pros

    Cons

Some of the managers should never be allowed to manage people at anytime. Leadership is only about money, not the students,

    Advice to Management

Be about your word....put the students first.! once you do this, you will see a turnaround in your company.

    Pros

    Not much good to say.

    Cons

Layoffs happen at least once a year. It doesn't matter if you are good at your job at that time. Promotions can lead to a better chance of getting laid off. Some management is terrible. Long work hours. Terrible work life balance.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There's really not actual pro's to working here other than the people you meet and maybe your salary. There would be no other way they would entice people to work there if they didn't start them off in the mid 40's and promise 15% raises (which technically never go through.)

    Cons

Where to start...the company is just so poorly run. You have people that are promoted that do not even have degrees. The motto there is "change is constant" which is so true because all that happens is they cycle through employees at every level. Processes, procedures and polices are changed pretty daily. Sometimes your told, sometimes you're not but that's your fault if you do not know the changes.

    Advice to Management

Take a long hard look at yourselves. You all are the problem. It's not the students or the staff members that actually work with the students, it's you and your "beliefs." Instead of promoting through popularity promote someone that actually values students and does truly want to help the person on the other end of the phone. The only thing that matters is if the students "posts and persists" it doesn't matter if they are qualified to actually be a student but as long as they keep attending it works for you.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For admissions personal, the pay is far beyond what other colleges offer.

    Cons

Hard sales tactics, with unrealistic, constantly changing goals. In two years, only one applicant was not accepted, although many were lacking basic academic skills. No concern for students & employees only applicants that will enroll and bring in federal financial aid money. Every quarter (11 weeks), school lost appx. 100 students

    Advice to Management

Close. Go bankrupt. Stop distroying schools that once had strong reputations. Get out of the business of selling an education for the purpose of lining stockholder pockets.g

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees below you, they do the work day in and day out so they know whats going on better than you.
