    Decent partner organizations with nice projects

    Cons

    Worst matching process. Overfill the vacancies and then reject with no match after sending the offer.

    Advice to Management

    Please do not overadvertise the vacancies and never overfill them.

    Pros

    Casual work environment with a mission you can get behind. Excellent results on the program side. The Fellowship experience is really valuable.

    Cons

    Under qualified management, constant turnover, three times as much work as is reasonable, low pay (although probably comparable to other non-profits).

    Advice to Management

    Stop the cycle of constant turnover: Current work load takes a 70+ hour work week plus travel; staff up where needed; don't increase goals/targets until something is working smoothly. Decrease internal meetings which literally take up a full 8 hours a day, and give more recognition of work that is being done by employees.

    Pros

    Great at getting a lot of smart, passionate people in a room together to exchange ideas.
    They partner with a lot of high-impact education organizations, so many fellows have the opportunity to do very substantial work at well known organizations.

    Cons

    No transparency in the placement process.
    Not respectful of ideological/thought diversity, which is disappointing since they place such a major emphasis on diversity in general.
    Low and mid-level staff that fellows interact with day-to-day are very hit or miss. Some were amazing, some could not have cared less.
    Data is collected from fellows via non-anonymous surveys, so if you have anything other than a 100% positive experience, staff will call you to talk one-on-one and try to convince you otherwise.

    Advice to Management

    More transparency in the placement process.
    Stop hiring mediocre staff just because they are alums.
    Embrace the diversity of ideas and experiences that fellows bring to the table instead of trying to squash them all into your narrow definition of what reform should look like.

    Pros

    Colleagues are hardworking, brilliant and the type of folks you want to spend time with on and off the clock.

    Cons

    Very top heavy organization that believes in trickle down support which almost never trickles down. Burn out is extremely high resulting in annual turnover ~35% which is sad considering it's a human capitals organization. CEO is a figurehead - most decisions are made by Pres who is strong operationally but has led the org in downward spiral as she hires people like her who manage with an "iron fist". Typical work weeks are 70+ hours for mid-level management. Workload constantly increases with the same or less support/resources.

    Advice to Management

    The culture over the years has devolved from being fellow and program focused to revenue/growth focused. The two aren't mutually exclusive but it's treated that way. Treat your people (especially regional staff) well, they will stay and you'll meet your goals as a result. Set ambitious, yet realistic goals and consult all levels of org to decide feasibility before agreeing to hit outrageous, unattainable goals set by funders.

    Pros

    Great people. Very collaborative: if you need help or ideas, just ask for it

    Rewarding to introduce people from a business background to lesser known opportunities in K-12 education. Teachers know EP as a path into non-classroom positions in education.

    EP is very well known in the education sector. Pride with being affiliated with them!

    Cons

    Very successful first decade. Figuring out EP's place in the K-12 education sector moving forward is creating a lot of uncertainty.

    Staff turnover at the lower and mid-levels is concerning and creates a lot of work for everyone.
