      Distribution Center Clerk

      Pros

Industry standard SAP system software, distribution environment uses lots of LE & SD T-codes. Laid back management, fairly hands-off for a distribution environment - micromanagement is not too bad As a clerk, I handled nightly outbound operations & staging - supervisors generally chose to handle Union personnel rather than work with SAP and handle nightly staging plans or third-party logistics communication Teamsters Local 169 Union personnel at Westampton facility were professional and courteous - as a Company employee I could not generally work alongside them, but we treated one another with respect Upper management seems somewhat competent from an entry-level standpoint, the Company remains profitable and the business outlook is somewhat more positive than other distribution jobs in the area.

      Cons

As mentioned in other reviews, some management personnel do not know anything about how to use SAP, not even to, for example, view a sales order(t-code VA03). Management may need more comprehensive training for this. Fairly static command structure, promotions are slow and few and far between. This causes the company to lose younger talent. This is a Chicago metro area company and is run like Chicago in some sense - workplace politics and cliques are part of the job detail. Not a whole lot worse than any other place I have worked in this regard, just more systemic. Know what you're getting involved in and just accept it and don't try to change it. The company is somewhat old-fashioned as you may expect for a nearly century old establishment - don't expect things to change quickly.

A Nice Company To Work At

Dec 29, 2011 -  in North Riverside, IL

      Pros

A nicely run family business. Senior Management shares information freely with employees. Business casual environment and a laid back place to work. A friendly atmosphere and communication between departments is pretty good. Like any job, you make it what you want. If you show you want to succeed, management will give you more responsibility.

      Cons

Pay is somewhat below average. Raises are usually the same percentage for everyone so it can be frustrating that someone who works harder gets the same as someone who doesn't work that hard.
