FACD program is the best advantage
Jul 20, 2018 - Financial Advisor in Mississauga, ONRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The FACD program allows recent grads to cold call, door knock and role play all while in training. Future advisors also get to work in head office departments to learn more about the company and expectations.
Cons
Some days are long and sometimes the assignments seem unrelated to advising, but looking at the big picture helps.

What Edward Jones May Not Be Telling You
Jan 29, 2015 - Financial Advisor in Harrisburg, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great training and a lot of nice financial advisors (FAs) who are interested in your success.
Cons
Unfortunately, I was never told that when I completed the "door-knocking" period and the initial training that I would not have an office to go to. There were no area Edward Jones offices that had sufficient AUM (assets under management) to bring on board a new FA under an asset-sharing arrangement . . . so after three months I received a surprise telephone call from someone in Saint Louis who I had never met telling me that my employment had been terminated. Look, this is a good company. They just have an unique business model that seems to work well for them--but sometimes not too well for new FAs. However, my advice is that one should not accept an FA position with Edward Jones unless that person is made to understand from the start that he/she will be paired with a named and established EJ financial advisor under an asset-sharing arrangement once the initial training has been completed. If you are not so paired when initially hired, then after the initial training period you will risk having no office from which to conduct business with clients, no assets to share (and therefore very little prospect of earning a post-training-period subsistence income while building a practice), or perhaps you will just get a phone call out of the blue from someone in HR telling you that your employment has been terminated.

Great training and community, terrible job
May 10, 2019 - Financial Advisor in Raleigh, NCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great training program for licensing and a good sense of community with lots of help from other advisors
Cons
flawed marketing plan, going door to door is no longer effective, no leads whatsoever, territories treated the same although drastically different, you have to sell commission products to meet sales goals but advisory is better for everyone long term.

Pros
If you support a respectful and communicative Financial Advisor it makes your job less stressful.
Cons
Every financial advisor runs their office differently. If you cover an office thats different from your main office it may take time to get use to how they communicate and operate.

Pros
Edward Jones is a full service investment firm that knows where it wants to focus. Advisors can become limited partners in the firm. Advisors receive top quality training and have the opportunity tot build their own practice and have their own office.
Cons
It is hard work and it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The main focus of the business building training is face to face contacts via knocking on doors, which is a real rollercoaster of ups and downs.

BOA job: Great or Awful - Depends on your Financial Advisor
Dec 4, 2015 - BOA Branch Office Administrator in Danvers, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Pay can be good, especially for new hires. No office politics because you only work with one Financial Advisor and usually no other employees in office. Benefits are pretty good. Training is almost all online. This can be great if you like being able to read a manual and follow the directions. Some areas have great BOA regional groups that provide a lot of personal support.
Cons
If you work for an Advisor who is lazy, you will not get bonuses/win contests no matter how hard YOU work. If your Advisor is doing poorly, you will get a smaller raise. Your advisor will blame you for his failure to do his job, even though legally you cannot do his job for him. (I worked here for 10 years, worked for 6 Advisors. Five quit or were "coached out of the business.)

Pros
Fantastic support for Financial Advisors and their Branch Office Administrators from both the corporate office and the Regional Leadership Teams. The culture of Edward Jones is unparralleled in the Financial Industry
Cons
It can be a challenging start due to you creating and opporating your own business. This is also an advantage if you can be self motivated!

Pros
Great work life balance. Nice working conditions. Must like working with the Financial Advisor because you are a team and communication is key.
Cons
Pay raises don’t even cover the cost of living increases. High deductible health insurance plan. Would be nice to have a low cost HMO.

Pros
- The training and time they put into helping new advisors succeed is second to none. - The help from veteran advisors and willingness from others in the region is incredibly helpful. - The pay is competitive. - Field Supervision and Home Office help more than you can describe here. - Private company versus public has huge benefits for the employees.
Cons
- The emphasis they place on door to door prospecting. - The amount of changes that occur and as often as they occur is hard to keep up with as a branch team which can affect the Advisor’s pay in certain situations.

Pros
Edward Jones provides a comprehensive training programs and strong support from other financial advisors in the region.
Cons
You need to have deep pockets and a ton of contacts to keep up with the "sales" goals they expect you to meet. Better get lucky if you intend to stay.
