I worked at Egon Zehnder (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Egon Zehnder provides an opportunity for horizontal growth. It is a truly collaborative environment and a great training ground, especially for someone coming right out of college looking for their first professional experience. The ability to listen in and participate on client class at a very high level provides great access to the leaders and clients the company is trying to influence.

    Cons

Egon Zehnder is in a bit of crossroads. Do they continue to be the best Egon Zehnder focused on what the company is and what they do best, or do they set their sights on beating Korn/Ferry at any and all costs. Unfortunately it appears that leadership has shifted its focus to the latter.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to keep a well-balanced work force.

    Pros

This company really values the individual as well as collaborative teams. They provide opportunities above and beyond other management consulting firms to make sure you're developing and achieving your potential. Very impressed with the caliber of the people here and the spirit and values of the firm.

    Cons

Just the usual cons of a partnership model meritocracy that is very flat and encourages autonomy over hierarchy, it really depends on the individual to drive the development of their career. We could also be better of "managing out" low performers more quickly.

    Pros

The people are extraordinary - but the culture suffers from an expectation of complete homogeneous conformity. Great place to start a career and learn a little about a lot - good launchpad for a path in consulting broadly, this is not a place to work though if you're serious about a future in agency executive search or if you are coming into the organization mid-career. Go work for a real company and not this glorified country club.

    Cons

If you are in research, be prepared to work long hours, for under market pay, and all for the privilege of being treated like a second class citizen. Limited upwards mobility, patrician misogynistic elitist culture, little to no work life balance. Consultants are for the most part a nightmare - internal clients are more demanding and unreasonable than the actual clients could ever even imagine being. Many partners barely work and their utter incompetence doesn't inspire loyalty or engender a lot of faith in the future of the firm. If these people could manage and behave themselves in a corporate setting, they wouldn't be working here.

    Advice to Management

Treat support staff like human beings. Treat research like coworkers instead of indentured servants. Treat research leadership like colleagues and thought partners instead of a 24/7 customer complaint line. Pay them the respect due as the only individuals in the org with any real managerial responsibilities (and capabilities.) Create some baseline expectations and consistency among the consultants. Fire underperformers even at the top. Let go of partners who are falling asleep in candidate and client meetings, abusing coworkers, and/or vacationing for months at a time. Get rid of Rajeev and quit outsourcing everything to India - EZIRS can barely deliver basic data entry - forget accurate documentation or client solutions.

    Pros

Great people, random perks. Paid OT. Good benny's.

    Cons

Office culture needs a cleanse. Certain consultants are lazy and verbally abusive to the staff. This behavior is allowed b/c their bringing in money and have "connections"
Ridiculous expectations, long hours, high stress environment.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the jerks who abuse the staff!
