I worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free bagels were the best

    Cons

Employees are under-appreciated and underpaid. I worked here during my high school career and was constantly looking for a better job.

    Advice to Management

Show more appreciation to your workers. Workers take orders, make food, clean restaurant, clean the bathrooms, and deal with customer complaints. They should get paid more.

I worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels (More than a year)

    Pros

I got paid and made friends...

    Cons

Very early hours, especially for a college student
Short staffed because of pay limitation, yet high work and labor demand
    Non-understanding managers

    Advice to Management

High more people and give training for new hires. This is not a place that everyone can just learn on the job and pick it up very quickly.

I worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    no late nights, free bagels

    Cons

As a GM, I was on call 24/7. I worked over 6 weeks straight without a day off. Only paying shift leaders $10 per hour leads to key holders rather than leaders. We did not have Excel, so all numbers had to be calculated by hand. If someone called out or quit without notice, I had to work for them because we could not afford to keep a backstock of team members. Benefits were terrible as well.

    Advice to Management

Great entry level management, but if you have any experience, look for something with a better work/life balance.

I worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Majority of great, repeat customers, good product, nice bonus if performance is high. Ring of Honor is a fun celebration of your success if you qualify for it. No nights.

    Cons

Very long hours. 60+ hours per week average. Early hours, always on call (as a GM), meetings outside of work schedule, high turnover of staff, which is usually young, hard to get raises approved for them therefore they are not invested in their position. Fine position for entry level manager or new college graduate. Nice stepping stone to other management positions/companies/industries where actual management, work/life balance, calmer working environment exists.

    Advice to Management

None. It's a fine working environment for what it is. Mid-level restaurant management across the board is physically and mentally difficult due to extremely long hours, high turnover, being on call for your store and the pay in typically low when figured on how many hours are worked weekly. This position is for young, non-experienced managers, which is fine if that's what you need. Advice to applicants...use the GM position as a stepping stone to something much much better. I did.

    Pros

Local store Manager was a great person to work with. This person really put their job on the line for the crew.

    Cons

Just after the store received a very good review, corporate came in and shut down the store. End of job. I don't consider that to be good strategy.

I have been working at Einstein Bros. Bagels full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free food in use of a daily employee meal of $6.50. Weeks and nights off. Benefits are good. Medical dental and vision. Pretty lenient with days off and use of sick time.

    Cons

Everything is prepped fresh and daily no matter how busy your store is. There is always work to do which can be annoying. Everyone needs a break here and then.

    Advice to Management

Work on time management and organization skills. Create cheat sheets and anything you can to help out the crew.
