I worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Majority of great, repeat customers, good product, nice bonus if performance is high. Ring of Honor is a fun celebration of your success if you qualify for it. No nights.

    Cons

Very long hours. 60+ hours per week average. Early hours, always on call (as a GM), meetings outside of work schedule, high turnover of staff, which is usually young, hard to get raises approved for them therefore they are not invested in their position. Fine position for entry level manager or new college graduate. Nice stepping stone to other management positions/companies/industries where actual management, work/life balance, calmer working environment exists.

    Advice to Management

None. It's a fine working environment for what it is. Mid-level restaurant management across the board is physically and mentally difficult due to extremely long hours, high turnover, being on call for your store and the pay in typically low when figured on how many hours are worked weekly. This position is for young, non-experienced managers, which is fine if that's what you need. Advice to applicants...use the GM position as a stepping stone to something much much better. I did.

    Pros

Local store Manager was a great person to work with. This person really put their job on the line for the crew.

    Cons

Just after the store received a very good review, corporate came in and shut down the store. End of job. I don't consider that to be good strategy.

I worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free bagels. Never worked past 8. Free soda. Free bagels.

    Cons

Hiring employees that would work for such low pay. Also, so tight on inventory, my dm would often suggest I push back expiration dates.

I worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I liked the early schedule. Good for college kid. I was able to have fun and work. The customers were nice and became friends with some that I keep in touch with. Good experience.

    Cons

Got very "corporate" at the end. They installed cameras company wide to monitor if employees were stealing food.

    Advice to Management

Management was good. The individual general managers determine how well the store does. They should be paid well.

    Pros

    Bagels are good. Pay okay.

    Cons

District management and HR are very shady. They have friends and family members connected so people will lie, manipulate, cheat and everything else to you if they dont like you.

Employee's that have been there a while are very lazy and dont get disciplined and are backed by HR in their lazyiness. Falsification of write ups and terminations based off of personal opinions not facts.

This is sad because the bagels are great but they really need honest hardworking people to make the company great.

And health benefits arent the best either.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the good workers and train them up tp make the company better instead of putting shady people over good people with morals to distort their character.
