I worked at El Camino College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The MESA department offers weekly tutor training which help the tutors effectively guide their students. They teach a variety of ways to better the employee's teaching skill.

    Cons

Must improve in getting more resources that benefit students outside academics. There must be more connections for students for Internship programs.

    Advice to Management

More email notifications for important events.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at El Camino College (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the workers are absolutely lovely. They create a family-like welcoming environment and are always willing to help if/when needed.

    Cons

Everything is very routine. Although some may say there is nothing wrong with having a routine, the pace was too slow for my linking. I was counting down the minutes till I was off work practically everyday.

    Advice to Management

Please create an environment where the employees (especially new hires) feel more comfortable coming to talk to you.

I have been working at El Camino College part-time

    Pros

The Writing Center Coordinator is a great boss. She is affable and is proactive as opposed to reactive. She is also flexible with everyone's schedule because most of the workers are part time, work other jobs and/or attend classes. Most of the tutors are friendly coworkers. Students who use the Writing Center are generally pleasant and genuinely eager to learn.

    Cons

One of the tutors who is a supervisor micromanages tutors and policies in the Writing Center much to the detriment of the students.

    Advice to Management

Change strict policies. Make students feel welcome instead of interrogating them when they first walk in the door.

    Pros

the school is great, the professors are great, they give you good attention. i love the big middle class as well as the city of torrance. u meet all kinds of people here. you can get everything u need from here if u know how to look for it/ask for it.

    Cons

the cafes on campus is overpriced. its oftentimes hard to find parking. sometimes it rains. sometimes when you have to get some paperwork sorted out it can take a long time. sometimes you meet people who are unfriendly or sketchy people come on campus and ask u for money...

    Advice to Management

add more classes. update the buildings. provide more student work opportunities.
