I have been working at El Camino Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Nice hospital. People are great. The facilities are good. They welcome staff thinking out side the box, to come up with ideas.

    Cons

A lot of construction going on. Parking is horrible. Too expensive to live anywhere near work. Most people commute a good distance. Staff feeling the effects of trying to do more with less people.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved at the staff level. Really get to know what is going on. Upper management wants us to do more with less and less people.

I have been working at El Camino Hospital part-time

    Pros

Wonderful team and staff members, flexible related to programs and offerings, and very forward thinking and willing to change.

    Cons

Sometimes the change is too frequent, and without warning. And there is often very little transparency.

    Pros

Good hard working people. Cafeteria food is decent. New buildings are nice and clean. Small hospital so you get to know a lot of people. Many long timers.

    Cons

Medical Benefits do not start on Day 1, Have to wait full month. They seem to only review budget once a year. Staffing is so tight there is no room for discussion when you need support. Managers who know how to play the game get the reqs.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff. Have regular one-on-ones with your staff. Not just once a year during performance review.

    Pros

Beautiful facility on the MV campus. Dedicated employees providing excellent care for patients. Overall compensation is good, especially for clinical staff.

    Cons

Very stressful environment. Unions. Too many part time employees. Managers are overworked and understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the number of annual goals/projects. Expectations can be lofty with few resources and pressure to cut staff and budget.

    Pros

Decent benefits, competitive pay, and depending on your department you can have a good environment. DON'T work in Imaging it people are quitting like crazy because it is a horrible place to work.

    Cons

The HR department is changing to a more automatic system. When I had question no one seemed to know how to help me. They don't listen to the little guy. You can not try to change anything no matter how bad it is.

    Advice to Management

Listen because others have good ideas too. I

I worked at El Camino Hospital (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, Personal growth, Good work life balance, Everyone is focused on the patient.

    Cons

C level management has no ability to prioritize projects. They want to do every project and as fast as possible. They have the money to do it. Unfortunately that leads to them spending more money than they needed to, burning out their staff and often getting an inferior product or result. They also choose to pay there non clinical staff far below the Silicon Valley average. However they are more than willing to pay consultants and contractors and exuberant amount of money because it goes on capitol budget instead of operating budget. This leads to valuable knowledge leaving the company.

    Advice to Management

Prioritize your projects. Focus on Quality instead of quantity. Learn to say "no". Pay your employees well instead of paying contractors. Your employees have valuable knowledge, far too many are leaving.
