I worked at Electro-Motive full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Co-workers were great and helpful. Health insurance is some of the best I’ve seen

    Cons

Upper management is disrespectful to employees and is inconsiderate of work loads. They’re not open to advice or opportunities for growth. The company wasn’t doing well financially and that didn’t help with any professional growth opportunities

    Advice to Management

    Work life balance is important

I have been working at Electro-Motive full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Overtime, job is not extremely hard, team work, pay is not horrible.

    Cons

They have lost their values. They don’t value there employees, they pick and choose who their favorite people are. Supervisors watch after you like your a child, time you to go to the bathroom, if your using your phone or if your talking. Mandatory overtime and Saturday. Supervisor don’t have a clue on how to manage production and people. They don’t want to listen or hear any bad news. Expect you to know everything... and fix it yourself. No union representation, but yet you pay union dues. No raises. They lie to us when we don’t make efficiency and we don’t get a bonus.

    Advice to Management

“Value each and every employee equally.” Don’t harass employees, respect and give them space. Let employees rest if they need it. Don’t force them to work overtime or weekends if they seems stressed, you don’t know what they are going through. You don’t know everything, train and try and get better at your job. Focus on your job as well it may need more work than the current employee your watching over. Be... professional. We need more supervisors like this. If your going to give person a raise, give all a raise we all work hard together and deserve to get paid something too. Don’t make anyone feel unappreciated like most supervisors are doing in here now. Don’t just say you care, you need to prove it and show it, stop lying and know god is watching . Are you going make a difference?

I have been working at Electro-Motive full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Interesting work. Plenty of challenges for people to work out but rewarding when you do find a solution. Some very sharp people working there that are hard to find. For the most part good working relationships.

    Cons

Foolish management. Any company that pulls out of a location instead of working with the people to make it better is not a company to be trusted at any location weather you are hourly or salaried. Assembly and manufacturing are two different animals and should never be thought of in the same way as the current management does. No sense of commitment to employees. They have a "anyone can do this job attitude"... which is entirely wrong. Too much emphasis on trivial matters and little or no concern with real problems until they cause trouble.

    Advice to Management

Start acting like a responsible company not only to shareholders and the top money makers but the people who actually do the work and depend on their jobs to live. Show that you are committed to the employees and that you care about them as much as you care about profits. Become a leader in the industry for dedication to the product and the people that make up EMD, not a loser. Use your assets (employees) wisely... and see beyond the dollar signs to become a well respected and honored company that treats people with respect and dignity to become a shining star. Learn to love your product and the profits will follow.

I have been working at Electro-Motive full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Many well qualified employees work at EMD in LaGrange and the location is fairly diverse except for by gender. It is a male's company all the way. If you're female, dead end.

    Cons

If you are goofy and people think you're funny you can get pretty fast promotions, as long as you are male - it's a guy's club for sure. Males without any college at all, and no talent or experience, land management jobs that females who work for 20 or more years aren't even considered be interviewed. I have seen this happen more than a few times, especially since sale to Progress Rail.

    Advice to Management

Look at filling professional roles with professional employees. Look to place women in leadership roles rather than chasing them out or into Quality, purchasing, or planning roles, which are traditional female roles.

    Pros

Everyday is a new and challenging day. It's a place where you can continue to grow and expand your learning by being hands on and actively involved with all the different locomotives that EMD has produced over its 95 years history.

    Cons

Morale is very low due to the many layoffs that recently happened.

    Advice to Management

    Better Communication
