I have been working at Electro-Motive full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Everyday is a new and challenging day. It's a place where you can continue to grow and expand your learning by being hands on and actively involved with all the different locomotives that EMD has produced over its 95 years history.

    Cons

Morale is very low due to the many layoffs that recently happened.

    Advice to Management

    Better Communication

    I worked at Electro-Motive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed the manufacturing processes and contributing to build a locomotive is simply awesome! Would have loved to see EMD 30 years ago.

    Cons

Hardest environment I've ever work in. Many bad practices and childish behavior on both sides. Seems like generally mentalities were to "get you, before you get me". Salaries and spending totally out of control. Union very hard-headed and always expecting more. Lose-lose situation. Not about building a good product or the customer.

    Advice to Management

EMD management out of touch with manufacturing today.

I have been working at Electro-Motive full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Its just a paycheck not much good things to say about this company or how it is ran by the supervisors

    Cons

If you are lazy, or come in with a hangover, you will get assigned work on the cushy jobs, that's right, they seem to promote bad Behavior, if you work hard then they whip you harder, in the code of conduct book from Caterpillar, it says all employees are treated equal, well not with this management, it is clear as day that you know who the favorites are, what needs to happen is the big Corporation suits need to come in and talk without any supervisors ,to the employees , there used to be a supervisor review sheet, that was filled out by the employees, and it's pretty obvious the supervisors didnt like the honest feedback, so those review sheets are no longer handed to them , there are good workers in this department, but bad management has turned them disgruntled, and you don't need a college degree to know that a disgruntled employee develops bad work habits, and a very poor attitude as far as helping the company grow, I can go on and on with the issues in this small Department, but I have said enough.

    Pros

when they keep enough work on schedule, this can be a busy place to work!

    Cons

nobody in management, will tell the truth to the common working person. also has a union staff, that does not support the people!

    Advice to Management

go back to the policies that g.m. used to run the place, many years ago! also get a h.r. staff, that is in place to help all!

I worked at Electro-Motive (Less than a year)

    Pros

Honestly, there were no pros here

    Cons

I was told prior to starting that I would be doing something completely opposite of what I was actually doing. The manager and team lead of my department were uninvolved with my training and progress.

This place is extremely old school. No room for growth. The company culture isn't the great.

Millenials stay away!! Worst employment decision I ever made.

    Advice to Management

Be involved with your employees growth and experience. Communicate!!!!
