I worked at Electronic Data Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    travel and variety of experience

    Cons

big behemoth, slow moving, except for projects with larger companies where decisions are made fast.

    Advice to Management

    listen to your employees

    Pros

EDS seem to invest heavily in technology, facilities, structured training and education. There was ample opportunity to move to new roles in the company.

    Cons

Often you get on a project that was setup for failure and then instead of adding resources to it they seem to just work people on the project to death.

    Advice to Management

Try to get the dead wood out of the company and look for people that are solid workers and help them have life/work balance.

    Pros

EDS is a global company, with diverse clients and opportunities around the world. If you're willing to do the work to find the opportunities, they're out there. EDS is involved in some environments that are larger than almost anywhere else you could find. This gives a unique blend of experience you might not find working directly in a company's IT department.

    Cons

The culture has turned sour the last few years. With layoffs, slowdowns, and executive changes, morale has been low which can be annoying. Cost and travel cutbacks can be frustrating as well. Growing at EDS requires a bit of effort on your own part to determine your direction and find opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Motivate your workforce -- the ones that are leaving are the good ones.

    Pros

There was a time when the employees were respected and new ideas were valued. This is no longer true with the current regime. My immediate work group is a wonderful place to be, however, we are the exception, not the rule.

    Cons

There was a time when the employees were respected and new ideas were valued. This is no longer true with the current regime. Our CEO is tyrannical and stories of his tantrums are told far and wide - extending well past Plano. He leads by fear and encourages his leaders to do the same. This is not a time for an opposing opinion or healthy conflict - mantras that used to be displayed in our elevators that dissappeared along with respect for the individuals.

    Advice to Management

EDS has a talented employee base - please trust them to do the right thing. Stop the micromanagement.

    Pros

Actually, couldn't come up with one single one. The only reason I started working there was because I thought it was a global, mature company that was well respected in the industry for it's delivery quality and had established processes.

    Cons

Disingenuous, indentured servitude mentality, somewhat racist and an overall immoral company. What I saw was outright raping of the client where the same resource was triple or quadruple billed to the same client. The senior management bet on large company clients compartmentalized enough not to realize that they were paying for the same resource many times over. When caught by someone at GMAC's insurance division, the EDS Client Executive quickly gave a $400,000 reduction in the bill. The invoice settlement was quick because senior management did not want the client to find out that some of the same resources were also doing work on another GSC for GMAC's parent at that time.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more truthful, more compassionate and don't abuse your client and milk them for money.

    Pros

Huge opportunities to bring about change in the way we do things. Plenty of scope for optimization. There is a very great level of focus on documentation and process within the company and there is a also a fairly large knowledge centre that makes it easier to access all information.

    Cons

Buraucracy. Large number of levels of approvals to get simple things done. Also feel the need to look at organization structural aspects such as span of control and so on. Lack of global experience.

    Advice to Management

Would help to define charters of distributed teams more clearly. Decentralzing of controls / approvals would also help in increasing speed of delivery.
