    Pros

The EDS culture allows individuals to respect their work and personal lives. The company stands by people who are committed and provides excellent career path and compensation. A lot of top managers are technical enough to understand the job that needed to be done.

    Cons

Some top managements weren't as qualified. There was also some amount of communication breakdown especially when there was a transition (merging, separating, buying, selling of accounts and human resources) but that's understandable.

    Advice to Management

Leaderships at EDS should try to acquire the MBA degree. A lot of them are technical but may lack in leadership skills.

    Pros

There is good project work for talented people. EDS supports a broad range of technologies and there is always a willingness to move into new areas. There are some very good people at EDS, not all, but many.

    Cons

Too many layers of management. Expenses are controlled by administrative types who have no idea what it's really like to travel on a regular basis. It is a large company, so many of the common complaints apply. Decisions are driven from the top. As a P&L manager, the business is no longer your own. This is a change that's taken place over the last decade as the competition and economy have tightened.

    Advice to Management

Fire the CEO. Ron Rittenmeyer has the carisma of a toad. He commands no respect in the industry or the company based on his actions.

    - Not Micro Managed, I have a great mananger
    - Chance to advance in you Carreer area - I started out as a minor team member, I was given a chance to prove my Netorking skills and now I am SME in aleast 3 key areas
    - New possiablilities with HP acquisition of EDS

    Cons

    - Not a lot of training $ avaliable
    - Inconsistant pay raises (Lack of Corporate dollars)
    - Contract based employment

    Advice to Management

Out with the old and in with the new (HP)

    Pros

EDS is a large corporation which provides stability and plenty of career opportunities. If you are inclined it can be easy to move within the company, to experience different job roles and to advance your career. For IT professionals the merger with HP can be expected to provide plenty of new career opportunities within HP.
Salary and compensation have always been reasonable.

    Cons

The current merger with HP is expected to result in layoffs for US based staff. However it is expected that the merger with HP will also include plenty of opportunities for EDS staff to transfer to other roles within HP if they desire.

    Advice to Management

Attempt to diversify to other revenue sources.

    Pros

Changing jobs after hire (parallel moves) - If you can prove you can do the job, they'll give it to you. How you got the skills isn't important.
At managers option, work arrangments can be very flexible. Getting the work done and meeting deadlines is more important than what time I arrived in the morning, or even where I was when I did the work.

    Cons

It's big. A lot of jobs are getting moved overseas. The pending merger with HP could be interesting.

    Advice to Management

Thanks, for providing a company where someone could come in to a telecommunications position that was so entry level, it didn't require any training, and work their way up to become a successful and respected designer in only 5 years. It's great having a job where I don't count the days until Friday and don't get depressed on Sunday evening. Of course I'm a graphic designer. Getting paid to draw pictures (even if it's just an org chart) is a very fun way to make a living.

    Pros

Dynamic Industry and fast changing industry. We have the benefit of transforming companies not just running their IT shops. As a result of the breadth and depth of EDS, we get to see many innovations implemented. Then we are able to share those experiences across industries adding value to each client.
Great People with incredible dedication to serving our clients in an excellent manner.
Ability to experience a wide range of IT areas and a wide range of industries without leaving the company. There is always a challenge and opportunity for those who want to make a difference to capitalize on it.

    Cons

Authority and control is held at very senior managment levels and within functions instead of at the business unit level. This diminishes accountibility, slows down the ability to get anything done and creates political factions / agendas that may or may not align well across the company. It is easiest to get great results when all parts of the organization are aligned, incented and motivated toward the same goals. Big companies often have this problem but it seems accentuated at this point in time at EDS. Some of this is driven by history and some is driven by strong opinioned leaders with short sighted vision

    Advice to Management

    Build greater levels of trust

    Pros

EDS has traditionally provided great opportunities for outstanding employees. There are opportunities to change job roles based on business needs and expand one's skill base and scope. Despite some "bad eggs", most managers are solid, caring people who look out for their employees.

    Cons

Granted, some positions can be shifted to lower cost countries, but that is a fact in all IT providers as well as in any IT organization.

    Advice to Management

In the "old" days, there were fewer job titles and fewer layers. This provided more of a "one EDS" view. I think that some thought should be given on how to bring back that old approach. I also find that over the years, senior management has become more distant than in the past. It used to be nothing to talk to a senior leader. There was no "Mr." in conversations. Now that is common...
