I have been working at Elementis full-time

    Pros

Pay is good. Thats the only pro of working there.

    Cons

Management keeps morale very low. A lot of chemical exposure and unsafe working conditions. If you're not an engineer you're treated as second class citizen.

I have been working at Elementis (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly work team for the most part. Excellent operators. Plant management is heading in the right direction under new leadership. Satisfying and difficult work.

    Cons

No recognition for performance. Annual bonus gain sharing payout is essentially nonexistent. Callous global management team. "Everyone is Replaceable" culture. Subtle workplace hostility in the form of retaliatory emails CC to bosses to "throw people under the bus." High turnover due to poor compensation and culture. Salaries lower than industry average for engineers. Very low morale amongst the union employees. Stressful environment. Incredible pressure placed on operations team (production engineers, shift supervision, ops management) due to skeleton crew bare minimum staffing.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people. Get and retain engineers with better incentives. Make a realistic and achievable payout for yearly bonuses (5-12% is a standard range for successful production companies).

    Pros

Well established product line. Commitment to product development and applications development make the work interesting. Well equipped laboratory. New lab.

    Cons

Mean spirited treatment of employees. Advertise high salary to draw candidates but offers are lower. Have had to increase salaries and promise bonus because of high turnover .

    Advice to Management

Compensate employees equally. Treat each employee the same way that you would want to be treated.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

The ability to learn different aspects of various jobs. The exposure to understanding all phases of accounting / finance. Benefits are good.

    Cons

Senior Management did not respect its employees. Compensation is below market average. The location of the corporate headquarters in East St. Louis is an undesirable location.

    Advice to Management

Senior Mangement needs to be more cognizant of its employees. There needs to be equity sharing on all levels at Elementis Pigments.
