    Pros

It is a great experience and the work environment is very fun. Each summer i return i become more familiar and more educated on how to do things. I learn new things daily and enjoy working close with the research animals. I have always had a great time working here and i hope to continue to think highly of this company.

    Cons

It is not directly linked to my major, but Eli Lilly does offer internships in the area of my studies. I also would like to be able to work with the monkeys and not be limited to just the other animals.

    Advice to Management

Filter more summer replacement students in to full time jobs upon graduation

    Pros

Excellent work life balance in most cases (some supervisors not as supportive as others), company encourages giving back to community and leads by example.

    Cons

Change is slow and difficult due to red tape. Also often have to combat too many negative attitudes and the mindset that we know best just because we are Lilly.

    Advice to Management

Don't wait until something is on fire to address it...look for more leading indicators for potential pitfalls. This may be processes, attitudes, etc. When someone suggests a change, REALLY listen. If you tell someone they have your support, be clear about what that means. Be more direct.

    "A great place to work."

    Pros

Senior Management recognizes the challenges employees face because of media scrutiny and criticism of the industry. They provide tools to help employees understand and deal with this.
Additionally, the pay is exceptional and the working hours are reasonable. Time off is not only allowed but expected for doctor's appointments, sick children and illness of older family members. Vacations are encouraged and employees are allowed to enjoy their vacation without concerns over what may happen in the office. In addition to vacation time, company holidays include 2 days at Thanksgiving and the entire week between Christmas and New Year's Day. Employees are given one week extra off when they get married, and start maternity leave 1 month prior to their due date. Maternity leave last 3 months after the delivery and the employee receives full pay for this time.

    Cons

The future is uncertain. Lilly plans to become a "FipNet" and to outsource many of its services. The stated goal is to return to the core business of research and development. However, many research and development jobs have already been outsourced, so one never knows where one is safe. There is also constant change. The company has adopted "six sigma" and has initiated and implemented many (probably thousands) of projects to improve productivity and efficiency. Many of these projects do just the opposite, and they get in the way of real work when they are being researched. These many changes occur independent of each other and usually result in conflicting policies and/or procedures. Many seasoned employees are unfamiliar with their current job requirements as a result of this constant change. Leadership remains committed to six sigma and it is extremely dangerous to one's career to make a negative remark about six sigma.

    Advice to Management

Rethink six sigma. Make the details of the FipNet strategy more clear. What jobs will be outsourced and when? We know this is all already planned, please just tell us. This will help employees make decisions about where to work, both internally and externally.

    Pros

People of integrity who are the best and the brightest . The focus on the patient and leadership's strong commitment to being transparent, proactive and ethical. I am proud to work for Eli LIlly and Company

    Cons

The negative press we as a pharmaceutical company get from the media and others. The external environment makes it a challenge to our morale. Some employees see the changes we are going through as personal, but change is the new status quo and it is not unique to Lilly.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great job of steering our ship into the future, communicating important changes and strategies to the employee and the public and in the words of Churchill, "never give up!"

    Pros

Dependable record of employee retention-lifetime of employment if you do your job.Treat people with respect, honors people with strong HR support in most areas. HR is prone to be by the book vs. life experience type wisdom.

    Cons

Promotional criteria based on irrelevant items-kiss ass mentality-opposite of the Marine Corps which would be a great guide in how to move forward in the new world.

    Advice to Management

Drive decision making to lower level-don't dumb people down. Remove levels of mgt. and don't allow supervisor level without at least 12 direct reports.

    Pros

Intellectually stimulating work; work / life balance; benefits; corporate culture

    Cons

Most of corporate culture is great -- and even better since the reallocations during the summer and fall of 2008 -- however, there are still some individuals in management who retain outdated ideas in regard to where employees need to work (i.e., work must be performed "in office" versus working from home office).

    Advice to Management

You have talented, intelligent employees with expertise in many diverse areas ... where they perform their jobs doesn't matter. What DOES matter is that the job gets done in a timely manner and with quality. Trust your employees!

    Pros

Good stable employer with excellent benefits. The employer provides quite a lot of good benefits. These benefits are very helpful for a family person. And if you chose to live in Indianapolis, it is a good place to raise a child with good schools, low living costs and a general peaceful city.

    Cons

I cant find any significant downsides of Eli Lilly. I am tended to say that the benefits far outstretch the downsides, if any.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing the good job

    Pros

Strong strategy; competent management; health business culture; desire to innovate. The company is very upfront with the workforce about key issues and challenges and has a thorough plan for the future. The firm has a strong culture of integrity in business and is being very proactive in trying to lead change in the way the public perceived the pharmaceutical industry. Lastly, Lilly has a reasonable healthly pipeline and plans to aggressively made it stronger in the future.

    Cons

The global pharmaceutical business is slowing and the company has margin pressures that will slowly shrink the workforce. This means opportunities are limited for upward growth. Futhermore, Indianapolis is the corporate location. While its a nice place, not everyone wants to live there long term.

    Advice to Management
