I have been working at Eli Lilly and Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are absolutely wonderful, especially as someone who just graduated and is trying to stick with a good company. I love the culture and most people are very friendly. Additionally it seems people are already open to networking and sharing their knowledge, especially if you are looking to move to a different area.

    Cons

For those working in manufacturing and who have experience or higher education in other areas (office, labs, etc), the opportunities to move around are very limited. There are a lot of politics involved and you often see inexperienced people from outside of the company filling the roles (or even being brought in full time) before those who have been there a while and excelled at their jobs. It can be extremely frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Do not write off your “common man” employees because of the positions they are (operators, janitors, etc). They may often be pursuing higher education or have years of experience in particular areas and just wanted to get a foot in the door.

I have been working at Eli Lilly and Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A company you can spend your entire career at, you can do many different jobs, strong culture focused on people, you get a sense you are a part of the Lilly family, great reputation with great products.

    Cons

You are not going to be paid as much as with other companies, all the roads lead to Indianapolis, so you need to be comfortable with the idea of spending your life there, new CEO is speeding up decision making (which is good), but at what cost?

I have been working at Eli Lilly and Company full-time

    Pros

Great products, respect and product/representative need from customers, solid employees and sales representatives, most lower managers look out for their employees, good vacation, holidays, 401k match, pension, and overall benefits.

    Cons

Upper management no longer seems to seek and value feedback from sales representatives, which is very different from the culture of the past. Our pay is low compared to others in the industry inclusive of incentive compensation, and the promotion process for sales is laughable.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, epsecially those who face your customers. We are the face of Lilly, and if we are not engaged, properly incentivized and compensated, the company as a whole can not see success in the future. You are your employees. Take the obstacles away and let us focus on promoting the phenomenal medicines that we have to help patients!

I worked at Eli Lilly and Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As with any company, your individual experience will depend largely on a small number of people and could therefore vary widely. However, the company is founded on solid principles and beliefs and it is likely that an average professional would greatly enjoy working there. There are many employees who have been with the company their entire career and they are well rewarded. The overall compensation and benefits are very generous, especially for the location and people generally care very much about the impact of their work.

    Cons

Due to high employee retention, many employees have only worked at Lilly and outside experience and perspective are not always highly regarded.

I worked at Eli Lilly and Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are the best, and the benefits are some of the best offered anymore. Flexible working schedules available.

    Cons

Extreme cost-cutting and constant re-organization. Down-sizing, then hiring, then down-sizing. This keeps the stress level high. Work-life balance is suffering.

    Advice to Management

The people at Lilly are what makes it the great company that it has been for the last 140+ years. Treat them well and make them want to stay.
