"Substitute Teacher - Stressful to find work!!!"

I have been working at Elk Grove Unified School District part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent schools overall and welcoming/helpful staff at schools.

    Cons

Upon hiring I was told that I would get phone calls for future jobs and I would get work everyday. I don't receive many calls and I am glued to my computer to try and find jobs. I am not working full-time like I'd like and find my job stressful! . Maybe they have hired too many subs!? I have a few schools that said that they have put me on their "preferred" list (which means I should get calls before others at their schools) which really never happens. I don't think that system works!

    Advice to Management

Re-work the phone system or don't tell me that I will be able to work full-time at orientation!

Multiple levels of authority. Incompetent, non-contributing employees can stay forever as well.

I have been working at Elk Grove Unified School District (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of great schools in this school district. You can feel how effective the administration is the minute you step on campus. 8 out of 10 campuses are what I call excellent. You do not have to fight for order and respect in these classrooms, it is automatically granted to you for being a guest teacher.

    Cons

Sometimes all of the jobs are not listed in the system so you have to grab them directly from the school secretary. Sometimes I ask her before I leave at the end of the day if she has anything for tomorrow or the rest of the week.

    Advice to Management

Providing some training would be great.

I have been working at Elk Grove Unified School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work/Life balance
    Vacation/Sick time

Love having the summers and holidays off. First job that I can actually enjoy my life outside of work.

    Cons

    Salary
    Advancements
    Too easy (not challenging)

The pay here is decent, could be a lot better. Some positions are fast paced and can be challenging at times. But some positions (like the one i'm in) has no challenges and most of my day is really boring. Opportunity for advancements are almost none. Unless I find another opening at another site. Currently looking for another position.
