I have been working at Ellwood Thompson's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great health benefits including vision and dental. Discounts on food products. Low key job environment, low scrutiny from management. Flexible hours, will work with students schedules.

    Cons

Average starting pay for grocery setting. Very low and infrequent raises, have been employed almost a year and only have three days of PTO including sick days.

    Advice to Management

More frequent progress reports and raises among valued employees.

Benefits were great, expired goods for employees, great co-workers

    Cons

Management was sometimes not so great. Big turnover. Some were amazing. Some were learning.

    Cons

Management of some departments can be really disorganized and inconsistent.

I have been working at Ellwood Thompson's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, great coworkers, management that cares about a good work environment. There are often opportunities to advance or redirect your career by internal transfers.

    Cons

Every job there is very busy and demanding with a strong customer service focus, you have to be willing to invest all of your energy - not really a "con",

    Advice to Management

Continue to work on employee benefits and a positive work environment, and do not take away some of the "perks" the staff has been able to take advantage of.

I worked at Ellwood Thompson's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Food Benefits (i.e Quarter Bin)
    Discount on regular priced items
    Fun Co-workers

Overall I really liked the benefit of saving money on food. As a student this was extremely helpful for me and one of the biggest things I miss about the job.

    Cons

    Horrible management
    Lack of communication among departments
Not flexible with student schedules (in my experience)

My direct manager was very unprofessional and unkind to me for the complete duration of my experience there (approx. 6 months). Before being hired I was up front in my interview that I would need a specific amount of time off for my wedding/honeymoon and was given that time, but after received a work evaluation that stated I took too much time off for personal matters and was not committed to the position I held. I felt that this was unfair considering my upfront communication in my interview about having that time off. There were also many occasions where I saw management arguing among themselves, which I found to be unpleasant. Overall, I would not recommend anyone to work here because of my previous experiences, but one can hope they have changed their management/work styles and atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

To keep employees from coming in and leaving quickly, offer better communication and thoughtfulness towards them.

    I worked at Ellwood Thompson's full-time

    Pros

The employees of Ellwood Thompsons Local Mkt. are excellent- hard working, dedicated, well-informed, helpful and polite.

    Cons

The owner is not remotely concerned with his employees' well being, and considering that he touts himself as a local business owner this seems fairly disgraceful. Does not give raises, gets rid of employees arbitrarily, plays favorites based on being a yes man rather than work ethic, and price gouges customers.

    Advice to Management

None. They aren't interested in how people feel.

I worked at Ellwood Thompson's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only pro to working here is when you get to clock out and go home for the day.

    Cons

The list is too long to list. Low pay. Managers with no experience who only seem to promote their drinking buddies versus people who work hard. Save yourself the time and apply elsewhere if you want room for advancement, want to be truly appreciated and compensated fairly. There IS a reason why this place constantly is posting jobs on Craigslist.....because people quit as soon as they start working there!
