I have been working at Elsevier full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work life balance Ability to work from home

    Cons

Team members are mostly contractors based abroad, which makes it difficult to collaborate and practices like pair programming are nonexistent. This is probably just down to luck based on the team you join, as I know this experience isn't universal across the company. Low pay rises, bonus isnt competitive. Oxford offices are hideous, and have terrible facilities (e.g. There's no food options nearby so your only option...

I worked at Elsevier full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great pay progression on the graduate scheme (£26k --> £40k after two years) Flexible working encouraged (working from home/hot desking).

    Cons

Not much guidance from management (might have just been my experience, but I was left to my own devices more than expected for a new graduate in a PM role).

    Advice to Management

Provide more iterative feedback and opportunities for graduates to move around the business like your competitors do.

    Pros

Working at this organisation made me realise how my former workplace was not conducive because of ill mannered colleagues. The benefits here too are miles better. Work is a delight more than ever for me.

    Cons

Big global employer. It is going to take me sometime to know everything round here.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Great, collaborative company culture. Doing good and meaningful work that matters in real time Company provides great work life balance Location is great for me The benefits are great and allow employees to focus on how they can best contribute to the company.

    Cons

Feels like there's no structured plan. So there's the tendency to throw everything at the proverbial board to see which one sticks. Need real tech leaders.

    Advice to Management

Build upon the great company culture and actively involve the tech teams. And keep investing in tech, in AI, ML and Data areas so that the company can compete well globally.

    Cons

Being very large, diverse, international and progressive, the amount of internal change, information and organisation can be a little overwhelming at times - finding the right people and information to do your job can be challenging but teaches you to think laterally and reach out to colleagues who are largely supportive and helpful.

    Advice to Management

Less management is more; self-organising teams trained and empowered to effect change and supported with the sufficient resources creates a powerful work ethos where change can be implemented more quickly and efficiently.
