I worked at Embarcadero Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great work environment
Super nice people to work with (friendly coworkers)
New office (but they moved again I heard)

    Cons

Not given much help when first started - given a computer and desk space then told to go sell. Would have been okay with that if I would have been given some training to be more knowledgeable about the products and their offering
Not given the tools needed to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Work WITH your employees and do more than just showing up to fill a chair. A little sexist environment (which was pro-male) which seemed to be supported by the others there. Look into that. I know as a girl it is different, especially in sales but this was a little much

I worked at Embarcadero Technologies full-time

    Pros

Good people, good products, and management took care of employees. The culture was good and it was a good working environment. However, this was during the startup years as well as after going public, not after the company was taken private. My overall rating reflects the post private equity ownership environment.

    Cons

Once the company was taken private, the environment changed such that EBITDA was the primary focus with an eye on selling the company. The recent merger with another company (via yet another private equity firm) appears to take things even further down this path. The rating system asks about 6 month business outlook which I put as neutral, beyond that (maybe a year or so) I expect it to be negative.

    Advice to Management

People and products matter along with EBITDA, but perhaps not so much these days. It seems that the company is the commodity, not the products which is unfortunate.

    Pros

some GREAT team members? a fridge full of cold drinks? [struggling to hit 20 words]

    Cons

Terrible management, terrible leadership - culture of fear.
Its like stepping back into the late 80's with is male dominated hard selling culture

    Advice to Management

    Get with the 21st century?
Treat your staff with respect and you will get so much more from them

    Pros

Free drinks and snacks, decent people, a few good products that sell themselves but limited to a privileged few with favorable territories.. ONE solid inside sales manager out of 4 or 5.

    Cons

Dysfunctional environment with incompetent management, shady activity, and very high turnover. No company vision and constant product delays and misinformation. Incompetent marketing and no channel program. By far the worst company I've ever worked for.

    Advice to Management

You can only ride your money train so long before you're exposed.

I worked at Embarcadero Technologies full-time

    Pros

Reasonable benefits, good people, close to mass transit, good stable of established (though mostly mature) products, international business is pretty strong

    Cons

CEO is and some product-team execs do not make good decisions about investments. Historical high levels of employee turnover. Very political environment where lower levels get blamed for upper level's errors

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees more. Integrate the sales and marketing teams more into some of the product development decisions. Strategy needs to be settled on

I worked at Embarcadero Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong collegial atmosphere with great people. Loyalty among the team is extremely high. Some solid products with good customers. Great downtown SF location. Fantastic club trips

    Cons

Company doesn't invest in specific area of specific products enough. Making the EBITDA number is king, so cutting staff, projects, investments, etc in order to make the number all are common practice. Highest level executives (CEO especially) do not have a realistic understanding of how our products fit in the competitive landscape.

    Advice to Management

Listen to a wide range of employees rather than just a select few sales managers when making decisions. Provide more opportunities for internal advancement.
