I have been working at Embassy Suites full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have met some great coworkers through this job, and some of the guests are nice. The starting pay is above minimum wage for this position, but that is still not enough.

    Cons

The pay is not good, and raises are rarely (if ever) given. There is no opportunity for growth. Often we are put into bad situations where there is no way to please the guest, such as when the hotel purposely overbooks guests and we are forced to walk the guests to another hotel.

    Advice to Management

Provide some sort of incentive-based pay. Hard workers are rewarded no more than lazy ones, giving no incentive for others to work hard. I find it frustrating that I work harder than most other people with no reward, while others get away with being lazy.

I worked at Embassy Suites full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Meeting lots of different people. Constant change, so it was never boring. Great opportunity to network. An opportunity to learn a lot of new things about hospitality behind the scenes.

    Cons

The pay really sucked. Extremely high turnover rate. Management was not always the best. The shifts weren't very flexible. Lack of communication between management and staff.

    Advice to Management

Be more understanding. Fight for your staff, and have their backs. Communicate with them about everything, instead of blindsiding them when things get bad.

I worked at Embassy Suites full-time

    Pros

Hilton has a great company with great standards. I have never felt more welcomed to a new job. The people for the most part were great and friendly. They have excellent benefits and incentives with great pay.

    Cons

The housekeepers seem to run the whole place. The Dept head is the Asst. GM who has never been a housekeeper or in the dept. Supervisors have no say in how the dept is ran and they can't do anything to housekeepers to get them to do their job properly. The scores were horrible. If the non English speaking housekeepers don't like you you have no chance.

    Advice to Management

Get someone who has been in housekeeping and ran the dept to take over. Stop babying them and let the supervisors have more say and power to get the job done.

I worked at Embassy Suites full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good place to work with lots of money to be made. Their Hilton owned hotels operate considerably more professionally.

    Cons

Will possibly be subjects to various forms of illegal harassment if the hotel is privately managed. Going through something like that is never worth the money.

    Advice to Management

    Do not retaliate against employees.
