I worked at Emerald Expositions full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

travel, trade shows, flexible hours; co-workers were fun

    Cons

Home office has no idea what's going on satellite offices; DO NOT go to HR for anything (even if you hear manager say he's going to go home and "smoke a bowl" in his garage). You will be flagged, terminated or downsized as a "problem employee," even if you're working in a hostile environment where management constantly badmouths other employees AND his/her hierarchy; expensive insurance for families; top-heavy management...

    Advice to Management

Top-down hierarchy doesn't work; clean house in HR and have them follow-up on reports from employees; safety of employees should come first; nobody fills out company culture surveys truthfully for a reason!!

No con’s, but some advice to those seeking to join the team • We all work hard and play even harder – Some periods are very high activity, followed by a lull • People who complain or are looking for an easy ride, will find it hard to get along in such a proactive environment • The opportunity to contribute is wide open, however, expect to master your role before being considered for the next level • Engage your new...

    Cons

We experience rapid changes of strategy due to external changes of today's global economy, which is not really cons but rather than the challenge of many companies are facing in these days. I believe we will continue to grow, with the support and leadership from the senior management.

    Pros

Supportive culture as long as you are willing to work hard but if you’re just looking for a paycheck, this is not the place for you. Great benefits. Incredible work office. Nice travel

I have been working at Emerald Expositions full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

-Nice office location -Coworkers are friendly -Ability to travel is a plus

    Cons

-Intense budget cuts led to lack of basic resources needed for shows to succeed -Lack of resources stifles employee creativity and ability to "think outside the box" -Upper-management's #1 goal is to please investors and therefore sets unrealistic sales goals for employees (nearly every employee in sales I've spoken to agrees) -Little transferable job skills, lack of any formal, professional training.

    Advice to Management

The business will not grow if you don't provide it with the basic resources needed to succeed. Piling more work onto already overworked employees won't work long-term, and will only result in an even more overworked employee, a less satisfied employee, and mediocre or sub-par work. Suggestions: 1. Send out a questionnaire asking employees to rate their workload, compensation and their ability to reach their sales goal...

I worked at Emerald Expositions full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Being part of a small trade publication within a larger company (Emerald) means there is a lot of room to make an impact and have your voice heard. If you are interested in the subject matter it is a nice niche where you can make a lot of industry connections.

    Cons

A lot of different and shifting responsibilities and tight timelines. A fair amount of turnover with junior staff because teams are so small there isn't much room for growth.

    Pros

    None None None None None

    Cons

Emerald does not care how much extra work they give an employee, does not listen to the teams when communicating the issues going o, does not compensate for time spent working. They fail to look at the overall picture. They only step in when things are bad. They need closer communication with the teams and the businesses. They make promises they dont keep to employees.
