I worked at Emergent BioSolutions (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very nice group of people to work with. People are very hard working at this site.

    Cons

All they care about is to get work out of you and no incentives. Unethical practices in terms of hiring, position level, pay grade, etc.Favoritism in terms of promoting people to managerial posts. Focus is always to get the maximum out of you, meet the deadlines and they will keep you at roles lower than you deserve so that they can pay you low. Forget about performance based bonus or hike or career advancement.

    Advice to Management

Need a better management and people with more experience and education. HR need to be fair and ethical.

I worked at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people just trying to make a difference.

    Cons

This company talks a good talk on their core values, but DON'T BELIEVE IT! The company is run by one person who only has his best interests at heart. The CEO is seemingly too weak or too disinterested to care. CEO doesn't get true feedback from employees that actually know what is going on...The information her receives is monitored, controlled and manipulated. Senior leadership, mostly white males, is inept. There is only one worth his salt, but he only speaks up when absolutely necessary to avoid having his head handed to him. This company has no strategy and no direction. They fumble from poor decision to poor decision, and the only people that get hurt are shareholders and employees. Leadership is never held accountable for their terrible decisions. They just keep shuffling the org chart to hide the incompetence. Please stay away!

    Advice to Management

The Board should step up and hold senior leadership accountable. They should ask tough questions, demand a strategy and a detailed plan to execute that strategy and implement milestones and performance indicators that measure success. The CEO should take charge of the company that was handed to him, trust his instincts, and make the tough decisions necessary to turn things around. He, too, should establish measures for success and stick to them. If they are not met, then those in his leadership that are responsible should be let go. He should bring in new blood and diversity if he truly wants an organization that is innovative and designed to protect and enhance life.

    Pros

There are good food choices in the area and some of my colleagues were great to work with.

    Cons

The entire Senior Leadership team at the Baltimore manufacturing plant needs to be cleaned out. They are disrespectful, immature, incompetent and do not understand FDA requirements. The facility has undergone too many "fixes" due to the systems being built by immature people who have no idea how to manage and run a facility. Zero projects have succeeded at this plant because education and skillsets by Management is severely lacking. The SLT does not live the core values but preaches them daily as talking points.

    Advice to Management

Clean house, starting from the top at this site. Corporate needs to install an all new SLT team or they will continue to fail and be a drainer of financial resources from the organization.

    Pros

There are very good colleagues in all locations

    Cons

Vision is unclear and changes constantly and with the political hotbed that models big government there is redundancy and a cut throat environment

    Advice to Management

Communication of your plan would be helpful. Living your core values would go a long way

    Pros

    Pay and Benefits were good.

    Cons

So many negatives I do not know where to begin. In my 40 years of working, I've never worked at a worse company due to policies set by upper management who are against Christian values and traditions.

    Advice to Management

No advice is possible with those in charge. However, I have advise to those posting negative remarks. I find it AMAZING that some EBSI employees post negative remarks against Emergent and their immediate supervisor but not Dan Abdun-Nabi. Trust me, whatever the departments are doing Is sanctioned by upper management, including Dan Abdun-Nabi. Do Not Be Fools. I know the inside scope.

I worked at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A couple funny employees who made the day bearable.

    Cons

Office politics and wars between departments. HR was no help. Many employees were miserable, executives who didn't play into the office politics left as soon as they could. High turnover rate for years. Working there will always be remembered as some of the worst years of my life.

    Advice to Management

Hire qualified management who give their teams the tools and assistance to be successful in their positions supporting their team, department, and company as a whole. Hire management who genuinely care about their employees. HR Dept totally useless in assisting employees.

    Pros

Pay was ok. Summer Friday afternoons off. Technicians and Specialists are good hardworking people.

    Cons

This place is like the wild west. They shoot from the hip. Men run the show. They scream, curse, drink, and do whatever they please with no recourse. HR is non-existent. With the exception of Friday afternoons in the summer, expect to live at work. Expect that unless you are part of the holy trinity you will be treated like a street dog. Women have it worse. Women are forced out (as can be seen by the great exodus of 2015/2016 when 7 female directors/VPs left, but only 1 male director). They will not take this serious - ever. The men know they have it made.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the people who are dragging the culture down. They are not hiding, they are found at the highest level of the organization. Allow HR do actually do something. Just because you hire a head of HR does not mean that you have a great culture. Just because you state you have 4 women on your corporate management team does not mean they actually get to participate in corporate decisions.

    Pros

good career opportunities, good compensation and benefits, ok overall work life balance (but it depends from the team), good social programs for the local community, great location.

    Cons

many difficult personalities (in Seattle) leading to conflicts and difficult work environment (but of course some teams are better than others), employees morale is low and there is quite a bit of talking and dissatisfaction, lack of interest on feedback from employees, lack of recognition from the upper management of the situations/people creating not ideal working environment.

    Advice to Management

seek more feedback from employees, at any level.

    Pros

Strategic financial growth, generous PTO, committed and highly capable work force.

    Cons

MANAGEMENT is out of touch with employees and thinks too highly of themselves. Truth be told is a punishable offense. So much potential, so much waste.

    Advice to Management

Commit to investing the necessary resources and holding yourselves accountable for delivering on the changes you expouse. Accountability is for everyone. Restructure or create an independent department that advocates on behalf of the employees. Institute 360 degree reviews.

    Pros

VERY GOOD BENEFITS AND LOTS OF COFFEE AND SNACKS

    Cons

The HR department is a total joke. People working in that department don't even treat fellow employees with respect. The person in the employee's relations department constantly humiliates the employees in the company. There is no respect from employee relations whatsoever. Fellow employees from other sites constantly apologize for this person's actions.
If you are in the "Clicks" you can stay if not they had soon see you go. Better yet they pick and choose who to lay off. It is a man's world there. Recently 12 people were laid off, most were women, some were single family mom's with 1-4 children and a new mom.
Personally the bullies I felt were the worst. They were constantly humiliating you in front of upper management to the point you wanted to throw in the towel. Some managers have no idea how to manage. They look the other way when there is a problem or go to their bosses and cry for help or to get rid of that person.

    Advice to Management

Start from the top and regroup. No way can a company survive with two one person telling a very upper management person to get rid of certain people when he couldn't do it himself. They are a company that preach Core Values and have all sorts of Culture Teams but all they do is talk the values are thrown out the window and the Culture Teams are just free lunches. Being a former employee there I found you could not confide in anyone they would just go tell someone else and the ball would go rolling. They are very unprofessional people.
All upper management should go to some classes on how to treat fellow employees. I recommend offsite classes the ones on site are a waste of time.
