I have been working at Emerson College part-time

    Pros

There are great students which makes classes a pleasure to teach. The location, health benefits, and facilities are also positives.

    Cons

The college experienced a good sized growth spurt and the larger departments are becoming unwieldy. The voices of part time faculty can be lost in the mix.

I have been working at Emerson College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Emerson College has an incredible group of people, in every department, working together to make an incredible experience. The benefits are also quite good!

    Cons

It is right downtown, so you'd need to go downtown every day, but I got used to it!

    Advice to Management

Keep trending those wages past that 25% mark and we'll be more competitive!

I worked at Emerson College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere to work alongside your professors and get insights into their job. They are extremely helpful and know that your degree comes first and will work around your schedule.

    Cons

It all comes down to which professor you are working for. As all things in life, some are others not so much.

I worked at Emerson College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast-paced environment with a diverse and fun student clientele. Co-workers often moonlight in the arts and in general everyone was interesting, hard-working, professional, yet with a sense of humor. It was the kind of place where you take pride in doing good work and take pleasure in conducting business alongside good people.

    Cons

Sometimes felt like a cog in the machine. Not a lot of interaction with the policy makers at higher levels. Middle management lacked leadership training and instinct.

I worked at Emerson College (Less than a year)

    Pros

Adjuncts were formed in a union, provided office space and respected alongside permanent faculty members.

    Cons

Part of the general problem with adjunct professors in higher education--good pay for temporary adjunct work but still too low viz. permanent, tenure and tenure-track professors, and too easy to let go.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate more multi-year contracts and support and observations of teaching

I have been working at Emerson College (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Emerson has a good benefits package, and it's great to eork in such creative culture. Great for transitions or short terms.

    Cons

Working here can be great or it can be a nightmare and it depends on whar department you work for. Also, depending on what you do, growth is almost impossible

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring VPs and hire more staff.
