I have been working at Emerson College part-time

    Pros

Very friendly, comfortable work environment that thrives on positive reinforcement. Most people have a good sense of how their role intersects with others, which makes communication across departments smooth and transparent.

    Cons

Because of the friendly environment, boundaries are sometimes hard to set, and am open office door can always be interpreted as an invitation for visitors, even when it is not. This extends to students as well, who sometimes have a hard time adhering to at least semi-professional behavior, due to the laid-back quality of the environment at Emerson.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps more emphasis on departmental metros that aren't mandatory. I think only I've or twice a year does everyone who works together meet together. Since there is such an important emphasis on communication, many small things could be smoother by way of a group discussion as opposed to bring to answer the same question for 15 different people.

I have been working at Emerson College part-time

    Pros

There are great students which makes classes a pleasure to teach. The location, health benefits, and facilities are also positives.

    Cons

The college experienced a good sized growth spurt and the larger departments are becoming unwieldy. The voices of part time faculty can be lost in the mix.
