I have been working at Emerson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Values high education (especially MBAs), values hard work, invests in training, global opportunities, etc. Overall an OK place to work, but not a great place.

    Cons

Culture has fostered some poor leadership, locations are not very desirable, massive layoffs have led to chaotic management procedures (I e never seen a matrix organization like this). Sub-par benefits (both health and retirement)

I have been working at Emerson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally good place to work with good people.

    Cons

Questionable decisions about investments from top management. Often see Senior managers who travel with large entourage coming to locations and not adding any value to their visit. Pay could be better, that comes up often ( even on here) and I never see that addressed.

    Advice to Management

Look at investments that make the ability to produce at a better cost, not so much on offices and meetings. Do you really need so many people flying all over the world for meetings?

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

In general, the people are nice and good to work with, though sometimes stuck in their ways.

    Cons

For being an Austin-based tech company, Emerson has some catching up to do in terms of culture. Values tend to be old-fashioned and conservative, which is good in some ways, but a challenge in others, especially to younger folks.

I worked at Emerson full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Periodic annual training in safety, protective gears, work ethics and work conducts.
    Good profit sharing and pension.
    Cafeteria service.

    Cons

Disconnect of the management from the engineering. It seems that management is having different training in work ethics and work conducts than engineering or something is broken in the system.

    Advice to Management

Replace those who should be retired 10 years already and monitor managers performance (not lower level employee). Wrong business decisions are not fault of engineers, workers or other employees that are reporting to management. You may want install video cameras in the managers offices.
