    Pros

If you want to know how to master 2D CAD, this is the place. You will edit tons of CAD layouts.

    Cons

lack of structure. As a co-op, you have to ask for work, or you'll just be left sitting around. The co-op program is a joke. When you do ask for work, your boss has to think about what to give you. At the same time, you're expected to spend the entire 8 hours being busy. Also, there's no help from senior engineers, as each person is almost like their own entity, working for themselves.

    Advice to Management

If you want to bring in more co-ops, have a work structure with some goals.

    Pros

If you have nowhere else you can draw a paycheck, work at Emerson.

    Cons

    My manager was totally incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Quit, and go back to school to learn the art of how to treat employees.

    Pros

    Good for getting industry knowledge

    Cons

Constant, division-wide worry about job security, even when I was first hired
At-will employer that took offense when employees (more than several!) gave less than two weeks' notice
Treated some of their best employees badly
Encouraged higher education but no one who got it stuck around
Another employee told me that company was a "get your feet wet then get out quick" place

    Advice to Management

CEOs don't stay more than a few years. Think about it.
    Clueless about problem-solving

    Pros

Close to my home with average travel. Pay is average.

    Cons

Management does not communicate to it's reports or employees.
Back stabbing and undermining is rampant.
Very unprofessional behavior from the Director level.
IT drives how the business should use technology.
They are implementing Oracle 11i instead of R12, 11i is already shelved.
VP's with lack of leadership skills.
Veteran employees unwilling to accept change.
    Poor benefits package.

    Advice to Management

Communicate the truth, constantly, and to all employees.

    Pros

Challenging work. Always different. Co-workers on the floor are generally good people.

    Cons

Low paying compared to other similar companies. Hire you in at one rate with the promise of another rate in 90 days. When 90 days comes they get amnesia. No tolerance for anyone who cannot work all the required hours for any reason. One man worked there for 10 years, his nephew also worked there for 4 years. When the older man passed away, the nephew was told if he missed work, for the funeral, he would be terminated. They require you to sign a form that allows them access to your medical records if you want the company health benefits.

I worked at Emerson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people doing the day to day work are doing the best they can and really do there best to help each other out.

    Cons

As an Emerson company the benefits plans have been lowered. No employee stock purchase plan, health care benefits were lowered and then the price was raised. As people leave they are not replaced, which increases the workload for the rest. Upper management from Emerson has the attitude if you don't like then go some were else, although they do say they want to make it a better place to work. For those reading this is a place for a job not a career.

    Advice to Management

Stop running this like a factory instead of hi-tech company. Your biggest assets are your employees. If they are not happy and do not have a sense of pride for being an Emerson/Avocent employee they will only produce low quality product and you will never get to your $1 billion goal. In other words take care of your employees and customers, the money will follow.

I worked at Emerson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company treats its shareholders and management very well. The company is known for its increasing dividends over the past 50 years. Shareholders like Emerson for its generous dividends. The company's senior management enjoys good stock options.

    Cons

No commitment to employees and customers. The company's culture is extremely anti-family and does not allow spouse to work in the same company. The company does not even have a purpose or mission statement. The company's senior management enjoys long vacations but frowns on analysts taking any vacations. The company does not commit to customers. Rather, the management tries to take advantage of customers in order to earn the highest profit.

    Advice to Management

Make long-term commitment to the society, not just for the shareholders and senior management.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pros of emerson network power are not very much. The work schedule is lenient, and my boss is actually a really good one as he cares for his employees. His bosses however...

    Cons

benefits, lay offs, morale, pay, management, sales. I could go on and on and on, but these are the major issues.
