I have been working at Emerson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Quite open and transparent communications across the globe can facilitate internal moves if you are in sales and marketing. The operations empire is strongly hierarchical with rigorous rules of engagement that gives job security but limits people's excitement and job mobility

    Cons

The whole global enterprise is in continuous cycles of survival from crisis-led cost reductions to growth uptakes with uncontrolled hirings. That is internally rumoured to be because of excessive focus to shareholder values and has distracted sone good mid-managers. Recent addition of Pentair is again rumoured to introduce the leakage in talents as the new acquisition is highly unionised with retention plans in place.

    Advice to Management

Switch from 3-year to 20-year planning cycle and your mid-managers some clarity on where the company is heading.

    Pros

Very strong ethics, good work life balance. Good matching towards 401k,

    Cons

No pension, only 401k contributions. weak health care benefits

    Advice to Management

Watch the creeping cost of living, it is putting pressure on salaries and may cause mass exodus due to lower pay

I have been working at Emerson full-time

    Pros

Great culture of teaching employees and making them better. A lot of good opportunities to learn something new with it being such a large company. The value of being safe, promoting quality has been top notch.

    Cons

Some dis-connect to how things actually are on the production floor from upper management to front line supervisors. Resources may be limited depending on how the energy sector is doing in the world.

    Advice to Management

If you want to know what is going on, be more involved on the front line operations.

I have been working at Emerson full-time

    Pros

Great company to learn and work your way up. They invest in hardworking people and if you show you are willing, they will typically help you get to where you want to to.

    Cons

Pay is below average for the industry. But the profit sharing does make up for quite a bit. If you want a solid job with a solid company, pay isn't always the highest priority. If you are just out for money....keep looking. It's not here.

    Advice to Management

Slight improvement to salary overall would really make folks feel even better about the company.

Expects employees to stretch working hours but hardly appreciate their work.
Job Insecurity: Company cannot sustain in bad period.
