I worked at Emerson (Less than a year)

    Pros

At a large company, there are many departments for you to figure out where you want your career to grow, and many locations for employees to transfer to for relocation.

    Cons

With all the different departments, networking may be hard. In order to transfer to different departments, it is necessary to go out of your way to meet people in other departments to get your foot in the door.

    Advice to Management

Create more networking events other than the Emerson Employee Community Events. With a great community in departments, it would be a boon to allow for interdepartmental networking.

    Pros

The compensation is very beneficial and everyone that works in this company is willing to help you. This is a great internship to further your career.

    Cons

The company is currently restructuring so job titles are constantly changing and people are getting moved into new roles.

I worked at Emerson as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The co-op program is large and well-developed. It gives engineering students the chance to work between engineering and the labs or production floor.

A pretty friendly and stable place to work.

    Cons

Emerson Climate Technologies is secure in the market right now, but is losing its technological edge over competitors. There was a perception among engineers that management was unwilling to allocate the resources to keep up in the long run, in order to support other areas of Emerson.

Climate is also well-known to undervalue their people and be stingy with raises.

My co-op was a mostly positive experience, but I wouldn't want to start an engineering career there.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees' creativity! There's lean, and then there's low-rent product development. Only the former is sustainable.
