I have been working at Emmis Communications (Less than a year)

    Pros

I'm a contractor but they treat me like I'm one of their own; they're very forward-thinking without losing that realness/groundedness and sense of humor. Very fun and fast paced, challenging setting.

    Cons

None. I wish I could identify something, but based on personal experience I really don't have any - even constructive - criticism to provide.

    Advice to Management

Thank you and please keep doing whatever you guys do here.

    Pros

    A great place to work.

    Cons

Would've liked to work there longer

    Advice to Management

Try not to listen to everything the consultants say.

    Pros

Emmis is a great company to work for all around. I started out as an intern in the promotions department and hired on after my internship. It was one of the best work experiences I have been in.

    Cons

No real cons, mostly likely more room for advancement in the company.

    Advice to Management

The management staff taught me the essentials of radio and promotions.

I worked at Emmis Communications as an intern

    Pros

+ Large amount of learning opportunities available
    + Get to work Independently
+ Acknowledges that you're a student 1st and intern 2nd and allowing flexible scheduling
+ Did work that was actually RELATED to the HR field
+ Great work environment where you feel valued and respected even as an intern
+ Job Shadowing so you learn about every aspect of the organization and how radio stations are run
+ Little to no busy work, everything I was asked to do was justified and I could relate to the internship
+ The job felt as if I were the Human Resources manager for all the interns, I was given a lot of responsibility when it came to caring for other interns and managing their paper work
+ Willingness to allow interns to make mistakes and learn from them, you will make mistakes and when you do your supervisor doesn't punish you but calmly explains what occurred and how the issue was fixable

    Cons

    - Only one Human Resources manager so if you want a job in HR you won't be getting one here after the internship is over
    - Can only intern once with the company (Emmis Austin Radio Policy)
    - Very few problems that I recognized, overall loved the company and have to nitpick to find any negatives, I loved my whole experience!

    Advice to Management

Stress the importance of job shadowing early and frequently, a semester goes by quick and in the blink of an eye you can go from 1st week to last week with relatively few job shadowing
+Would also recommend getting a list of Intern Supervisor names and contact info to make it easier to contact them for Job Shadowing opportunities

I worked at Emmis Communications as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Being around all the music/musicians is very cool. They are very honest and my supervisor always offered feedback.

    Cons

Internships are unpaid, but you do get school credit. Environment is still corporate, so you will be in a cubicle with no daylight, but that's how it is with a lot of corporate jobs.

I worked at Emmis Communications as an intern

    Pros

If you raise your hand, you'll be rewarded. There were opportunities to work with a variety of staff members on almost any project. Supervisors are still very understanding of being a student and an intern and balancing both of those roles.

    Cons

If you don't volunteer for things, may not have as many opportunities to succeed/earn clips because there can be multiple interns working at the same time. It could be easy for some to get lost in the shuffle.

I worked at Emmis Communications as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Great laid back environment. Actually learn a lot about radio on the entertainment side a well as the business side.

    Cons

Some times the interns have no work and nothing to do. That is when you should make your self known to all the other departments and make yourself stick out.
