I worked at Empath Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits package. People commend you for your work with hospice; however, little do they realize how dysfunctional the organization has become and the lack of quality care actually received by patients on a daily basis.

    Cons

Lower than average salary. Horrible training to perform your responsibilities using their systems, operations, and procedures. Very little communication between management and staff. Employees are treated as dispensable and subjected to derogatory and demeaning treatment in the workplace. Upper management wishes to conduct themselves as though they are a fortune 500 company; however, neither their systems of operation, nor the management team currently in place, have what it takes to achieve the standard of performance required to reach that level of status in any aspect of the organization.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as people and demonstrate the empathy that the organization's title suggests, putting into practice the mission and values that the founder dedicated her life to fostering in this organization.

I have been working at Empath Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This job provides a rewarding opportunity to me as a nurse to help. I love my job. I know I am the one that goes in to help a patient and there family when they are the most desperate. I wish everybody else weren’t so critical of what we do.

    Cons

The negativity from the teams and physicians is overwhelming. I really don’t think they want us to admit patients as I guess it’s too much work for them. The social workers are constantlyso negative about the admissions. I would love to see them go where we go all by themselves at night.

    Advice to Management

Handle the negative people that point fingers all the time. You only have one chance with our patients.

I have been working at Empath Health full-time

    Pros

    1. Many opportunities to make a difference in the community.
    2. Leadership really is listening. Even if it takes a while for it to result in change due to logistics, etc it really is so much better than any other healthcare environment I've ever experienced.
    3. Staff and CEO truly cares about our mission.
    4. I feel I am a part of something important that is moving in a positive, progressive and expansive direction while holding true to its core.
    5. I feel great pride when people in the community tell me how the organization I work for has helped their family.

    Cons

Regulatory compliance from multiple agencies makes some tasks feel really arduous and/or confusing and that can weigh heavily on staff. This holds true for healthcare in general, though.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course and express gratitude to the front-line and behind-the-scenes teams for everything they do, every day, that makes us who we are.
