Tethered to a desk
Aug 26, 2022 - Customer Service Representative (CSR) in Pottsville, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Decent benefits available after 90 days
Cons
Tethered to a desk from start to finish of day. Every second is literally accounted for. Restroom breaks are timed. I had to laugh at their de-escalation training because everything suggested in their training is opposite of how the supervisors act.

Horrendous environment, nepotism, all around toxic environment
Oct 1, 2021 - Customer Service Representative in Pottsville, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Some coworkers were friendly, not much else as far as pros go
Cons
Hiring process was very long and it was a red flag from day one with how much they put on a nice front with how everyone is like family there. Definitely was not the case once training was over. Just kept getting new responsibilities piled on when they have nothing to do with your actual job title. Work atmosphere was so uncomfortable, managers are nice to their favorites and if you’re not in that group expect to be treated like you don’t belong. Lots of employees like to gossip and bully people rather than work. They start you at $15 but you will stay at $15 forever because they do not offer any type of raises or incentives. Benefits are terrible and costly. Constantly being asked for overtime. People you speak to over the phones are malicious, screaming, cursing. If you can’t handle being talked down to by your higher ups, coworkers, students, and potential students then expect everyday to be ruined by the first hour in. Frustrating to see how some employees get away with doing basically nothing the whole time while you’re the one being run into the ground. Unless you are hired as someone higher up in the company expect to be burned out by the first week. Wish I wouldn’t of wasted my time giving this place a chance. The company is desperate enough to have people posting fake positive reviews to draw people in, you think with how much they charge for tuition they could afford to pay people more than $15 an hour after ten years.

1 week paid training for incoming instructors!
Cons
No after training help from other instructors. Other instructors set you up for failure. Leaving had more benefits than staying
Jan 27, 2023 - Educator in Phila, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Stable income Consistent pay Paid training
Cons
At my location: co workers were shady Didn't recieve a raise and stayed at 15 per hour until I found out how much others were getting paid. Needing time off even if you have pto the ED made it your responsibility to get coverage. Training is poor Have problems at your location and try to phone HR? I was told to just quit instead of anyone having my back. Having a baby? My ED black balled me cause I asked to be a sub to save money on daycare. She never called me and when I called for work was told I'm not needed and was quietly fired. I wasn't told until 30 days later. Save you employment agreement woth your job description because you will be told to do things that you didn't agree on and things not on your description. While pregnant I was simply ing doing my job and got in trouble for staying in my classroom instead of socializing 30 mins before my shift and was told I was too hormonal.

The hands on training was impressiveThe hands on training was impressiveThe hands on training was impressive. The old management team made this company feel more like a family.
Cons
The focus is budget cuts these days. No longer hands on training. Everything is e-learning and you are are your own. You are expected to manage operations, be the academic director and do admissions. Unrealistic at times.

Great Product, Bad Management
Apr 11, 2014 - Executive Director in Peekskill, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I firmly believe that Empire does the best job out there in providing cosmetology education compared to other schools out there.
Cons
Things are constantly changing. Every day there is a new policy or change to a policy and sometimes without any notification or heads up. You find out that things are no longer ok as you are doing them, meanwhile the same scenario a week ago was ok. The company capped salaries and eliminated all bonuses no matter how well your performance was, so there really is no incentive to work harder, They say that to get a raise was to apply and interview for a higher position, but that doesn't even work. I applied for a job where my numbers were better than the others and I still didn't get the job. All politics. Also they got rid of all face to face training and think using webinars will substitute and provide efficient training.
