I have been working at 24 Hour Fitness full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Fun work environment. Great Clients. Great Coworkers. Get paid for your effort, not some calculated worth based on lazy leeching colleagues bringing down your positions value.

Cons

You local gym management will hold you back if promotion means they will lose your money generating ability (and they will because promotion means transfer most of the time). Prices for training goes up but your salary does not. Back and forth on salary structure: per diem no commission became commission then went back. They take the lion's share of training packages even when you bring in clients from your networking, where they did no marketing to pull them in or sell them membership. Most will fail or grow above them and leave.

Advice to Management

If you want to not lose trainers to self employment and go back to recruiting for such a low retention job, try focusing on retaining top talent instead of hiring more leeches to gamble on. Cater to the talent and your money will flow in. Worry about the bottom line for just this month will always lead to long term struggle as you fail to stop the bleeding out of money from trainers going solo. Also, DO NOT allow immediate managers to have input on a trainers promotionability, they benefit too much from keeping them where they are.
