Pros

Not too stressful work environment. The company is fairly decent about letting you have family time not interfere with work time.

Cons

They like to infantilize their employees with silly rules about what kind of food you can have at your desk and very annoying human resource practices.

Advice to Management

Ask human resource management to find better things to do with their time besides come up with stupid rules that alienate employees.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

If you want a career in insurance, this is the place to go
everything about insurance, from debt ratings to ILS to captives, can be learnt
benefits are decent like health insurance and study support
work is not too demanding compared to other wall-street-type jobs
insurance credit ratings is a very niche field (good or bad)
brand name still good in the industry

    Cons

politics at higher levels comparable to soviet-style politburos
power struggles / unfair appraisals compel talented staff to leave
IT systems at least one generation behind other professional services
rating methodology is not being developed fast enough
shareholder passiveness has led to ill-discipline among management
might-makes-right mindset has developed in some staff
the internal controls environment here is abyssmal
had this been a publicly-listed company, the stock price is unlikely to go upwards

    Advice to Management

My advice is to the Shareholder, actually.

Wake-up your management and make them accountable for their actions. Establish clear rules, codes of conduct, and policies. Take control of the company and steer it into the next generation. It is as clear as day that your management team is ill-prepared to make the leap.
