I have been working at A.T. Kearney full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

- Brilliant minds at every level of the hierarchy
- Passionate people with genuine and inexhaustible curiosity
- Humility, congeniality and cordiality are the firm's cultural cornerstones
- A wide array of Fortune 100 clients; consultants at every level get substantial senior
  executive client exposure

Cons

- Intensive hours; work-life balance can be a challenge but is addressable if one is willing to
be open and honest with one's team about work load and expectations
- Modest research and production support. This dimension has improved considerably over
time but still has a ways to go.
- Heavy operations focus in the United States; light on strategy. This varies by geography
considerably however since the brand perception, though universally strong, is not
  consistent worldwide.

Advice to Management

- Keep working on reinventing brand to attract work beyond the traditional procurement domain

I worked at A.T. Kearney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good, down to earth people with no pretensions. Smart and like able. Descent amount of global spread so options to work abroad if you choose ( and are found fit for position).

    Cons

Sourcing and Procurement. That's 70% of work that's done here. Make no mistake about it. Very little corporate strategy or market entry or org restructuring. Of 7 projects that I worked on 6 of them were long sourcing projects - IT, chemicals, paper products. This work is not stimulating and builds no useful skill. I had to leave before my prior technology skills were completely eroded and I become unhireable by anyone. I fear that's the reason many long time ATK employees are still there-- all they know is sourcing!

    Advice to Management

Stop chasing easy money through sourcing projects and make a concerted effort to build additional skills ( from the top down). Silicon Valley office had zero partners focusing on hi tech because sourcing was so easy! Pretty soon the truth will be out and you'll have a tough time recruiting from top schools. No fresh grad or MBA wants to do sourcing 60-70% of the time.

I worked at A.T. Kearney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Fortune 500 clients
    - Intelligent people
    - Generous expense budget (when you are traveling to a client)
    - Good place to start right out of school
    - Stable and focused on growth

    Cons

    - Many managers do not have people management skills
    - Long stretches of time spent on the beach
    - Work/life balance issues
    - Promotions can be slow, especially compared to peers at other firms
    - Salaries at BA level are lower than many competitors
    - Little passion for innovation

    Advice to Management

    - Too many procurement projects, repetitive and boring after a couple years, grow the strategic practice
    - The name is not recognized directly outside the industry like competitor firms, hire a good advertising agency to really give the brand a boost and the prestige it deserves
    - Rather than have analysts spending weeks to months on the beach, encourage partners to do sponsor interesting, insightful and even innovative research in their industry
