I have been working at ACCO Brands full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Have some good companies under their umbrella, Kensington, Day-Timer (etc.)
Took care of employees as far as reimbursing them after mandatory pay cuts in 2009 and also did the right thing as far as taking care of employees during layoffs. Have some good products and should do well if they can maintain domestic sales while expanding into emerging markets.

Cons

Have some dated products and are out of touch with a lot of products they make. Do not invest enough back into subsidiary companies and have allowed a lot of business to disappear to competitors. Outsourcing everything.

Advice to Management

Take a good look at recent business you have lost and see what you can do to get it back. Improving business organiztion, product knowledge and understanding of the competiton should be high priorities.

I have been working at ACCO Brands full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong workforce and a diverse product offering. Strong relationships are in place with many of the customers they serve.

    Cons

A lot of experience has left the company. Belief that problems can be solved by "working longer and harder". Bare minimum effort to improve employee morale

    Advice to Management

Bite the short-term bullet and invest in upgrading operational resources and better aligning all of your business groups to have the same type of organizational structure

  2. "Somewhat directionless organization"

    Pros

Great salary, benefits package, autonomy, wonderful people up to middle management level.

    Cons

Unclear commission plan, upper management is absolutely out of touch with the end user. All focus is on the large office dealers and shareholders.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes to what the customers want. After all, they are the ones who buy the products!! The focus on maintaining a high profit margin at the expense of actual sales revenue is baffling.
