I worked at ADT Security Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits. There is ample opportunity to make money if you do not mind working 6 days/week at all hours. Leaving someone's home and getting a teary hug from them because you have made them feel safer is an awesome emotional boost and makes you feel good about your job. ADT is the oldest security company in the US, has lots of government contracts, excellent equipment, and is a very recognizable name. If your territory is a large city that has a lot of suburbs, you can do very well here.

    Cons

ADT dealers can undersell a direct ADT employee and steal jobs out from under you (even though this is not supposed to happen, or you are supposed to get reimbursed if it does). Installations - at least from my office - took weeks to be installed. The installation department consistently screwed up my jobs, the installation manager does not care at all about sales reps, the scheduling department can NOT get their crap together, there were constant over-scheduling of install technicians and jobs were canceled with no reason given. As a result of the massive disorganization, my commissions diminished by over $12K my last year there in comparison to the year before. It is my understanding that not all offices are as poorly managed, but we lost our area sales manager (who had been with the company for over 15 years) because of poor communication between departments. Management is starting to expect higher production from sales reps with less leads, resulting in longer hours.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your sales reps. You spend a LOT of money on training them, and the average rep is there for less than a year. Either give a base salary or adjust the commission structure so reps only get paid after a job is installed. Provide a better support base for your sales reps. Implement reasonable expectations for your sales reps. There is absolutely no work/life balance for this position, which is why you go through so many people. Quality sales reps are going to jump ship when they see that they are not getting paid an adequate amount of money for the amount of hours they work. Hire more and better install techs. Make sure that in each office scheduling for installation of a job is less than a week out. People purchase SECURITY systems for a reason. If they are worried about a specific problem, they are not going to wait over a month to get a system simply because they get to put a pretty blue sign in their yard.

I worked at ADT Security Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, helping save lives and property, care for customer, community involvement. People there have a passion for what they do.

    Cons

Too many high level high paid execs that are completely out of touch. There are not enough "feet on the floor"-long call wait times, lots of OT, stressful.

    Advice to Management

Please look at the dollars spent on high level positions and adjust to front lines. Look at the declining culture and job satisfaction. Long tenured employees are fed up and leaving.
