Pros

Atmosphere on the job is excellent. Overall, the employee base is friendly and helpful. Facilities are unmatched in Huntsville. The EN Division seems laid back. The company plays it conservative with most decisions, and in recent times, that has really helped Adtran. In a growth market, that does slow us down though. Adtran was named the best large company to work for in Huntsville.

Cons

Not any major ones. I believe the salaries probably average less than the contract defense jobs in the area. The main negative would be that we want to be a 1B dollar company, but try to operate like a small company in many regards. There is a reluctance to take any large steps forward.

Advice to Management

Expect more.

I have been working at ADTRAN full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work is reliable; if you do your job, you aren't likely to lose it. The environment is generally friendly. 40 hours/week is average and more are rarely required. Vacation requests are usually easily approved. Stock grants for engineers.

    Cons

All engineers have the same title to prevent jealousy between employees, but as a side effect, hard to determine route to advancement (as engineer) and better salary. Raises are only around 2.5-3.5%. Inter-team development is rarely synchronized or prioritized at the same levels. Little responsibility for poor decisions and yet management is hesitant to make decisions.

    Advice to Management

Assign responsibility for project decisions to a single individual or two at most to avoid design delays. Hold those people responsible for their decisions; insuring poor decisions aren't duplicated and reward good decisions. Insure all teams on a project have same priorities for tasks.
