I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

They are among the best I know..... currently

Cons

As mentioned in so many other comments AECOM is concentrating on Utilization... waiting for the day everyone other than corporate pays for themselves. Yes also as mentioned MAJOR changes are coming and I am certained that our wonderful benefits are at the top of the list! We were asked in April to prepare for open enrollment for year 2013 benefits.

Advice to Management

None....just venting.... can't imagine they would care even if they did read it. it's all about our stock - not humanity!

I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

i would say that the overall compensation package is reasonable.

    Cons

The CEO and managament have been unsuccessful in maintaining their top employees in part because of the difficulty in managing such a large company that consists of diverse legacy companys and that has distinct regional practices. "employees are our most valuable resource" is a false mantra and falls on deaf ears because the employees dont see it practiced at any level within the company, on the contrary the company has ignored its best and brightest and ignored the storied history of its legacy firms. The company vision (if there is one) is a short term fiscallly dirven one and is not sustainable.

    Advice to Management

These are serious and fundamental cultural issues and wont be changed overnight. the recently proposed "NextGen" program will fail if management don't properly deal with the issues noted above, NextGen may also be a copyright infringement, many company's have laid claim to that word.
you cannot change a culture by putting new label on it.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Great co-workers. Excellent experience with significant responsibility early and often. Senior engineers have great experience and are more than willing to work with and mentor junior staff.

    Cons

    1. Acquisitive growth versus organic growth has caused AECOM a number of significant operational issues: The company has no clear and sensible business plan.
    2. Too many inexperienced business development and marketing managers that have no clear business plan (see # 1 above) and do not understand business basics such as risk vs reward, important commercial contractual terms, and the need to identify valuable pursuits early.
    3. Compensation: poor annual raises, bonuses, incentives, and benefits despite positive performance reviews.

    Advice to Management

Clarify your business plan to your management -- stop using b-school inspired values as directives. Decide what you want to be and then hire some experienced rainmakers from respective peers, (like URS, Fluor or Bechtel.)
    Spread the wealth.
