Pros

AECOM is a large and very succesful firm in terms of growth. In spite of the economic challenges the world faces, AECOM is well positioned for continued growth, both organically and through acquisitions. The culture is still male dominated- engineers and architects. Internationally diverse although true opportunities for growth and mobility within the larger corporate structure are yet to be realized.

Cons

Constant re-organization. The process of consolidating the operating companies will take years and will be challenging to manage. One must be agressive and have higher than average tolerance for change and ambiguity to thrive and grow in this kind of environment.

Advice to Management

Encourage high productivity, not long hours. Life-work-balance

    Pros

The company seems to offer very good salary and benefits
The company provides varied assignments away from one's home office
Office and employee support in logistical areas, such as office space, administrative facilities, copiers, computer hardware and software, IT tech assistance, etc are top notch.

    Cons

Although senior management provided timely and appropriate "big picture" information to employees, middle management seemed to provide very little communications in those areas that directly affected employees.
As a long time professional working in the area of architect-engineer-construction management services, I have been used to being a "sellor-doer" in pursuing work and then providing the services to a client base with which I have developed good working relationships. Unfortunately, AECOM's business model appears to require that one be either or the other. Staff are either marketing or operations, but little opportunity to do both exists.

    Advice to Management

check on how well middle management distributes information down the chain of command

    Pros

opportunitites to integrate different fields of work together, good environenment with a wide range of fields and people, diverse and young culture, relaxed and friendly atmosphere and the opportunity to have a one on one relationship with the managers of the divisions.

    Cons

mangement is not always recognizing the efforts of the staff or the sacrifises that are being made. Mangement is not equippped for complete management skills and most of them are overwhelemed with work. there is no true recogniztion of the values of people and what theya ctually do for the company. Higher management which makes the final decision on the raises and bonusses of the staff have no real knowledge of staff contribution to the company and do not have an open dialogue with direct amangers to really rank employees. Time management is very poor on on levels of the company and distribution of labor is minimal with mostly the same people handling most of the problems across the board in teh company which overwhelms them.

    Advice to Management

I would want senior maangement to be more open to the employees and their comments and to make sure that raises and bonuses are actually given on merit and not some secret decision. I would want Senior Management to have adequate planning systems for projects and to distribute tasks evenly among employees and not to assume that things take 1/10th of the time that they actually do. There should be realistic deadlines set across the company to enable meeting deadlines and reduce overtime and crazy schedules.
